About

Bentall Rowlands Storage Systems[1] (also referred to as BRSS) goes way back to the industrial and agricultural revolutions. They design, manufacture and install grain silos and storage systems worldwide for both the agricultural and industrial markets.

History[edit]

The company was founded by Mr. Bentall and Mr. Rowlands, two of the eldest and most highly respected names within the industry.

The 18th Century saw the famous 'Goldhanger' plough[2] designed by William Bentall,[3] which remained in production until 1947. William Bentall came from a long line of yeoman farmers and his goldhanger plough design was remarkably successful to the point where he equipped his whole farm with them.

Manufactured by a local blacksmith, their reputation grew and the demand for the ploughs soared. William Bentall opened a small foundry and smithy and decided to concentrate all his efforts on building this manufacturing business.

On William Bentall's passing, the company was inherited by his son, Edward Hammond Bentall[4] who moved the business forwards and diversified into the design and manufacture of yachts and motorcars [5] by the late 19th Century, exporting products worldwide.

The company was acquired by the Acrow Group in 1961 and became focused on bulk storage, coffee machinery and handling equipment. The company was sold in the early 1980's and moved to Scunthorpe in the UK where it has been based ever since.
