Bioscope is a Bangladeshi video streaming platform that offers both live TV content and Video on Demand (VOD) to its viewers. It is the first live app or website of Bangladesh.

Overview[edit]

Bioscope TV was Initially launched as a Beta website in September 2016 and then as a Beta app in August, 2017. Bioscope is jointly owned by Bongobd (Stellar Digital Ltd), Bangladesh's premier digital entertainment service provider and Grameenphone Ltd.

The service offers its viewers an ad free, High-definition video experience of over 40 local and international TV channels, movies, videos, live cricket matches and other video content, free of charge.[3]

In addition to the website, Bioscope is available as an application across mobile devices which are on Android platforms. Bioscope Android application is currently available in Bangladesh. Bioscope is also available and people can watch through Computers and iOS devices[4]

Bioscope has collaborated with noted writers and directors to bring original contents such as:

  • Kali - A 5 episode suspense drama series launched in September, 2016
  • Osthir Shomoyer Shostir Golpo - A collection of 7 Mini series based on never seen before plot lines, launched between 5 - 11 September, 2017[5]
  • Feluda - An adaptation of popular Bangla detective series first premiered in August, 2017[6][7]
  • Maa Vs Bou - A reality TV show hosted by Nusraat Faria where wife and mother battle it out to win the title of the household's 'Radhuni'

Movies[edit]

Bioscope’s movie collection comprises a curated list of classics, short films, documentaries and latest hits such as Dipu Number 2, Amar Bondhu Rashed, Matir Moyna, Pipra Biddy, Chorabali, Monpura, Black, Musafir and many more.[2]

Music videos[edit]

The music video section features all the hottest new trending music videos in the bangla music space.

Sporting events[edit]

Bioscope provides its viewers live sport streams of the latest football and cricket matches with scores and latest updates in the form of in app notifications.[8]

Unlike their Bangladeshi counterparts, overseas viewers can only avail to the VOD content for the Beta phase. The entire catalogue will be available to viewers worldwide after its global launch.[9]

Bioscope is currently preparing to go Global and soon will be available for viewers residing outside the shores of Bangladesh.

Awards[edit]

Bongo (Stellar Digital Ltd.) has recently been awarded the National ICT Award, organised by BASIS, for the best Digital Entertainment Product in 2017 for their service ‘Bioscope’.

The service already has more than 3 million unique users and was the number 1 app in Bangladesh on Google Play Store in just three weeks after its second Beta launch in August 2017. [10]
