Blanca E. Colberg Rodríguez (February 11, 1911-c. 2010) was a Puerto Rican politician and former mayor of Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico. Colberg was affiliated with the Popular Democratic Party(PPD) and serve as mayor from 1949 to 1965, she was the first female mayor of Cabo Rojo.

Early years[edit]

Blanca E. Colberg de Ramírez was born in a poor family in Cabo Rojo on February 11, 1911. She is the daughter of Antonio Colberg and Aurea Rodríguez. After studying the primary grades in a school in Cabo Rojo, Colberg, culminated a course of Secretarial of the city of Mayagüez. She started to work immediately, accepting a job in the Department of Health, where she had to interview, weekly, hundreds of people from families with low economic resources. This job proportioned her a vast experience in Administration and Human Relations.

Political career[edit]

In the 40's, she broke the traditional sexist barriers, after being named the mayor of Cabo Rojo, position she occupied with the help of the people until January 1964. Later she was elected, in 1965, as Representant to the Camera for the District, Cabo Rojo, Hormigueros and the rural barrios of Mayagüez.

Public service[edit]

Colberg allowed that Cabo Rojo always had access, both the Mayor's Office and her home, allowing each citizen to feel confident that the mayor would treat them, by all means, to solve the problems that brought their attention. With limited resources, but a total commitment to provide the best for your city, Colberg's administration achieved extraordinary advances in the areas of public welfare, public works and in expanding educational and cultural opportunities.

Under her administration she achieved great proyects, among which we can mention; the construction of the Old Mayor's Office, Cabo Rojo's Municipal Playground, The Concha Acústica, The Pedro Nelson Colberg School, The Parque de Bombas, Cabo Rojo's Municipal Police Cuartel, the Santa Rita Residencial, the Tuto Mendoza Park, the Refugio de Aves of Cabo Rojo y the Balneario de Boquerón, between others. Also the paving of all the streets, the channeling of Mendoza and Pileta streams, the reconstruction of the sewer system and light was provided to all the city and urban and rural communities.
