Blocklords is a historical online grand strategy game developed by MetaKing Studios.[1] Blocklords is commonly known as the first MMO game to be powered by Web3 Technology and is set in a fictional medieval metaverse.[2]

Gameplay and development[edit]

Blocklords is set in a shared medieval world where players can create fictional characters, dynasties, cities, governments, armies, and economies. It is the first massively multiplayer online (MMO) grand strategy game powered by Web3 technology developed by the Seascape Network. Since the game runs on blockchain technology, players will have control over their in-game digital assets with the ability to create storylines, including discovering various storylines running in the medieval metaverse.[2][3][4]

Blocklords allows players to create a personalized hero in the medieval era, develop social in-game communities, lead armies for conquest or raids, and develop their dynastic lineage through in-game marriages. Players can choose to be active in warfare or the economic development of their territories.[5][6]

Blocklords has been developed by MetaKing Studios, and founded by David Johansson and Nicky Li. It's the studio’s first game. The team includes more than a hundred members working fully remotely from eight countries.[2][5]

Partnerships[edit]

In early 2022, MetaKings raised $15 million in seed funding primarily from Makers Fund and Bitkraft Ventures. Other contributors included Delphi Digital, Shima Capital, Spartan Group, Animoca Brands, WW Ventures and Huobi Ventures.[1][5][7]

In May 2022, the studio announced a partnership with Immutable X to hyper-scale the metaverse with gas-free and carbon-neutral NFTs on Ethereum through the Layer 2 protocol.[8]
