Bobby Rogers (born 1992, Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States) is an American visual artist based in Minneapolis who creates portrait photography featuring African-American Muslim subjects.[1] Rogers’ work takes on themes such as “xenophobia and anti-blackness”.[2] His work has been featured at the Minnesota Museum of American Art[3] and the Minnesota Historical Society. His photography has been featured in Elle, Buzzfeed,[4] Mic,[5] The Huffington Post[6], Star Tribune[7], Minnesota Public Radio[8], The Pioneer Press[9], Juxtapoz Magazine[10], and Water Stone Review.[11] In 2016, Minnesota Monthly named Rogers "Best Artist of the Twin Cities".[12] In 2017, Minneapolis-based City Pages named Rogers one of the "Artists of the Year"[13] and The Huffington Post included Rogers in "The Nur 25 – Muslims That Are Breaking Barriers and Lighting Up the World".[14]

Life and work[edit]

Rogers attended the Minneapolis College of Art and Design where he studied illustration.[15] He notes his influences include “Lorna Simpson, Nabil Elderkin, Kehinde Wiley, Pieter Hugo, and Pierre Debusschere”.[16] Rogers also works as the graphic design lead at the Minneapolis-based Juxtaposition Arts.[17] He participated in the 2017 Light Grey Residency in Akureyri, Iceland.[18]
