Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji,often called Bola Oyebamiji(born 17 November,1965) is a Nigerian banker,economist,public administrator and politician.He is the current finance commissioner in Osun State,Nigeria and a member of All Progressives Congress,APC.[1] [2]

Early life[edit]

Bola Oyebamiji was born in Ikire and had his childhood in the town.[3] [4]

Education[edit]

Oyebamiji was educated at ADC Primary School,Oke-Ada(1971-1977),Ayedaade Grammar School,Ikire(1978-1982) and the Polytechnic Ibadan where he studied for his Higher National Diploma in banking and Finance(1985-1988). Oyebamiji also holds two masters' degrees in Public Administration of the Lagos State University, Ojo and Business Administration of the University of Ado-Ekiti. Besides the academic qualifications Oyebamiji possesses, he has also earned for himself relevant professional qualifications. He became a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria in 2009. He is also a Fellow of many prominent professional bodies such as Institute of Chartered Economist of Nigeria(2011),Association of Enterprise Risk Management Professionals(2016)...[5]

Employment[edit]

In 1989, he was employed at Wema Bank Plc as assistant manager in the bank.In 1998,he joined Trans International Bank as senior manager and rose to the position of principal manager before he left the company in 2003.He also served as the bank's Head of Lagos Region. Oyebamiji also worked for the Spring Bank Plc for four(4) years (2005-2009) as Head of Business Development.

No sooner had he settled down in Spring Bank than he was poached by another financial institution the Enterprise Bank in 2009 and was made to head the Retail Business Unit of the bank. Oyebamiji was at Enterprise Bank when he was named the managing director of Osun State Investment Company Limited in 2012. Oyebamiji is reputed to have brought his rich banking experience to bear in the management of Osun State Investment Company,so much so that the company recorded 700% turnover within the short time he held sway.

According to the information on the official website of Osun State government,the fortune of Osun State Investment Company Limited leaped from about 300million in 2012,when Oyebamiji took charge,to 2.6 billion Naira when he left the company. His vast experience in banking and solid grasp of economic and budget affairs, coupled,particularly, with his brilliant performance in Osun State Investment Company,was said to have earned him the finance commissioner-ship in his home state of Osun in 2017.[6] [7] [8] [9] [10]

Oyebamiji before becoming the commissioner for finance in Osun State has also held directorship positions in Omoluabi Mortgage Bank(2017),Brent Mortgage Bank(2017),Ikire Microfinance Bank(2008),Imperia Bureau De Change(2006),Roger Blue Petroleum,Lagos. Oyebamiji, since 1997,has been the chairman of White Green Farm,located in Onireke Village,Ikire,Osun State. The farm is a known producer of plantain,plantain and yam flour,palm oil,palm kernel oil,maize and other grains in commercial quantity. The farm,besides being a source of raw materials for manufacturers of soap,brewery products,it is also a generator of opportunities for the indigenes of Ikire,Oyebamiji's hometown.

Oyebamiji is a lover of wisdom and he seeks it at every opportunity.In the course of his career,he has participated in different peer review workshops,seminars,courses,etc,within and outside the country.These include: Effective Board Leadership at the Mortgage Banking Association of Nigeria,Lagos in 2017; Re-Inventing Osun for Growth & Sustainability–IMPC Ltd/Peter Longworth CMG –UK in 2016;Influencing Skill course at the Pan African University (Lagos Business School) in 2008;Currency Trading Programme 1 in New York in 2006; Currency Trading Programme 2 --United Kingdom in 2006; Currency Trading Programme 3 --Las Vegas in 2006, United States of America;Management Development Seminar at the Pan African University in 2006;Foreign Exchange Management course–Euro-Money in New York, U.S.A in 2004.

Others include: Relationship Management and Market Strategies Course;Money Laundering Returns Seminar;Comprehensive Computer Course and Computer Appreciation Seminars; Marketing and Selling Skills;Seminar on Budget&Monetary Policy;and Identification and Management of Problem Loans.

Similarly, Oyebamiji attended series of workshops and conferences namely the Directors Conference -1st Line Consulting Ltd, held in United Kingdom in 2017;the International Finance Conference at the London School of Economics in 2002; and workshop on Fraud, Detection, Prevention and Control.[11]

Gubernatorial ambition[edit]

Bola Oyebamiji joined the Osun 2018 gubernatorial when the traditional rulers and leaders of thought in his Ikire hometown obtained the expression of interest form for him to contest the election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in 2018.However,after what is described as some interactions with members of his think-tank,Oyebamiji withdrew from the race and threw his weight behind the eventual winner of the shadow election Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola.[12] [13] [14] [15] [16]

Awards[edit]

Oyebamiji was a recipient of the award for the Best Student in Banking Law in the Department of Finance,The Polytechnic Ibadan.He was also the recipient of Dr CS Ola Award for the Best Student in Management during his MPA programme at the Lagos State University. In addition to the above,Oyebamiji was awarded the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria's Gold Medalist Award in Practice of Banking II in November 1992. During his stint in banking industry,Oyebamiji was also a recipient of several awards for excellence and professionalism. He was at different points in time recipient of Trans International Bank's The Most Profitable Manager of the Year Award in 2002 and the Central Bank of Nigeria's Award for The Star Performer in Credit Documentary and Collection in 1991.[17]

Family life[edit]

Bola Oyebamiji is married to Dr Sekinat Bola Oyebamiji and the marriage is blessed with many children.
