Briana Buckmaster (born July 15) is a Canadian actress and singer, best known for playing Sheriff Donna Hanscum on Supernatural (2013–).
Personal life[edit]
Buckmaster is from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, where she was born in a family of farmers, with two older twin brothers.[1] She attended the Grant MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta, where she graduated in Theatre Arts.
She lives in Vancouver, with her husband, José, and daughter, Valentina.[2]
Career[edit]
Buckmaster started her career on stages across North America. In 2001, she had her professional stage debut with Teatro La Quindicina in On the Banks of the Nut and then she returned in Poki Talks, Vidalia, Caribbean Muskmt and The Vile Governess and Other Psychodramas. She's appeared at Edmonton's Citadel Theathre as Rizzo in Grease[3], and appeared with Panties Productions in Paradise City.
At the 2003 Edmonton Fringe she appeared in The Tunnels of Little Chicago, a play she co-wrote with Trevor Anderson and Leona Brausenth[4] (based on her tour guide experiences in her home town, Moose Jaw[5]), that toured across Western Canada. In 2003 and 2004, she's appeared regularly at The Varscona on the variety show Oh Susanna. She performed a multiplicity of functions for the Pith! tour, another Teatro la Quindicina production, including Excutive Producer.[6] Buckmaster has been a member of Rapid Fire Theatre in Edmonton, Alberta and she worked with the Canadian Comedy Award winning theatre company Die-Nasty. She still is a core company member of the theatre company Teatro La Quindicina.[7] She was nominated for the Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Awards in 2012 for her role in The Adulteress[8]. Her writing credits includes Lady Fartlek Productions, a series of comedic shorts written, directed, and starring fellow comedic actresses.[9]
In 2013, she was casted as Sheriff Donna Hanscum on the CW's show Supernatural. She first appeared in episode 13 of season 9 and her character returned in seasons 10, 11 and 13. Episode 10 of season 13, called Wayward Sisters, is a pilot for a potential spin-off, that would see Buckmaster and fellow actresses Kim Rhodes and Kathryn Newton as the main characters.[10][11][12]
Buckmaster is in the cast of the horror movies Homeowner (2016), directed by Ryan Curtis[13], and in Devil in the Dark (2017), directed by Tim J. Brown.[14][15]
Buckmaster performs, alongside other Supernatural's cast members, in Jason Manns' album Recovering with friends.[16][17] In 2018, Manns is producing Buckmaster's debut solo album.[18][19]
She is a recurring guest at Supernatural conventions all around the world.[1][20]
