Brin Gibson

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

James Brinley 'Brin' Gibson (born 1974) is an American attorney who currently serves as Nevada's Assistant Attorney General—the top legal adviser to Attorney General Adam Laxalt.[1][2] He succeeded former assemblyman Wes Duncan in that role.[3][4] He joined the Attorney General's Office in 2014, as the Chief of the Gaming Division, where he served as chief counsel to the Nevada Gaming Control Board, the Nevada Gaming Commission, the Nevada Gaming Policy Committee, and the Nevada Athletic Commission.[5][6][7][8][9][10] In that role, among other things, he authored an opinion[11] for the Nevada Gaming Control Board explaining that daily fantasy sports operators, including DraftKings and FanDuel, were offering gambling games and thus would need to apply for licenses in order to operate in Nevada.[12][13][14] As a result of that opinion, most daily fantasy sports operators stopped operating pay-for-play daily fantasy sites in Nevada.[15] After many other states followed Nevada's lead, some states passed legislation specifically exempting pay-for-play daily fantasy sports from their anti-gambling statutes.[16]

Gibson also routinely travels to cities in rural Nevada on behalf of the Attorney General's Office to discuss important issues facing those communities and potential solutions the office might have.[17][18] [19]

Biography[edit]

Gibson was born in Henderson, Nevada. He is the son of James Gibson, a former mayor of Henderson, Nevada, former gubernatorial candidate, and current Clark County Commissioner.

After graduating from Basic High School,[20] Gibson attended the University of Chicago before transferring to Brigham Young University where he earned his JD, MPP, and BA with highest honors.

Prior to joining the Attorney General's Office, Gibson was a partner at Lionel Sawyer & Collins[21], a board member for the Henderson Chamber of Commerce,[22] and a commissioner for the Colorado River Commission.[23][24] Prior to attending graduate school, he served as the Special Assistant to Oscar B. Goodman,[25] the mayor of Las Vegas, advising Mayor Goodman on all state, national, and international issues.[26]

He has been named Nevada's Top Government Attorney by Nevada Business Magazine.[27]
