California Planning & Development Report

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Founded in 1986, the California Planning & Development Report is a periodical covering land-use planning and development issues at the state and local levels. It serves as a reference for planners, land-use lawyers, developers, environmentalists, activists, and citizens involved with or interested in planning and development processes in California.[1]

Much of CP&DR's editorial content is created by professional journalists with academic and professional backgrounds in planning and development. CP&DR is unique in that it is an independent periodical publishing news pertaining to a single state only — the first planning publication of its kind.[2] It is widely read by urban planners and other land-use professionals in California.[3]

CP&DR is published monthly as an electronically delivered PDF, and articles are posted on a nearly daily basis on its website.[4] Regular features include news articles about local planning issues, coverage of statewide planning controversies, coverage of important court cases, essays and blogs, and a weekly roundup of planning news from around the state. Topics include but are not limited to legislation, planning trends, local news such as general plan updates, local controversies, and notable developments.[3][5]

CP&DR's editors and contributors have written many books, special reports, and other publications on planning and development in California and the nation. CP&DR was founded by planner and journalist William Fulton, author of the Guide to California Planning, The Reluctant Metropolis, and other books on urban planning. Currently executive director of the Kinder Institute at Rice University, Fulton continues to serve as publisher of CP&DR. He writes his monthly Insight column, among other contributions.[6]

Paul Shigley served as editor from 1999 to 2010.[7] He was succeeded by Josh Stephens, who served as editor from 2010 to 2013, and Martha Bridegam, who served from 2013 to 2015.[8] Stephens has served as senior writer and contributing editor since 2013.[9]
