The CAMA Gallery.[1] (گالری کاما in Persian) is a London gallery for contemporary and modern art, opened in 2016 in order to exhibit contemporary and modern art to the public. It has occupied different premises, first in London, then the Tehran branch. CAMA's collection—and hence the gallery's shows—has had distinct phases, starting with Persian painters and artists, moving to the Persian photographist and directors, followed by shows purely of painting, and then returning to contemporary and modern art from Middle east at the CAMA Gallery in London and its branch in Tehran.

The CAMA International is registered in the UK on Companies House in 30th of August 2016. On 1st of August 2017 CAMA gallery website went live and became a dedicated member of artsy[2] and artnet[3]. CAMA has been a member of The Fine Art Trade Guild since its inception[4]. On 29th of November 2017 Marked the arrival of CAMA Gallery showcasing physical artworks in London at The Hotel Café Royal[5] on Regents Street. Some of the artists names whose works were present include: Sohrab Sepehri, Parviz Tanavoli, Mohammad Ehsai, Manoucher Yektai, Bahman Mohasses and Monir Farmanfarmaian to name but a few. CAMA presented 30 artworks from 30 highly acclaimed Iranian masters, totaling $2,700,000 worth of art which is an achievement (record) for the largest number of Iranian masters showcased outside Iran[6]. The V&A attempted an exhibition of 25 artworks two years earlier, however the exhibition was cancelled. fa:گالری کاما

Opening[edit]

The gallery has been an influence on art in Britain since its opening[7]. On 30th of November 2017, CAMA showcased 6 artworks at The Hari Hotel in Belgravia, with special guest speaker Lord Norman Lamont. From January 2018 - February 2018, the CAMA Gallery followed exhibition From Toner To Miracle by Mostafa Nourbakhsh. This exhibition introduced this artist to the U.K. for the first time. February 2018 featured exhibited works by Iranian painter Fatemeh Divandaru. During April 2018 - Jun 2018 a group show featured Sensation by Iranian artists, SENSATION[8] - Saeed Ahmadzadeh, Adel Younesi, Fatemeh Divandari, Babak Roshaninejad, Elham Yazdanian, Hooman Derakhshandeh, Ali Nedaei, Afshin Pirhashemi, Mostafa Nourbakhsh, Shaghayegh Shojaian, Mohsen Jamalinik, Najva Erfani, Fereydoon Omidi, Bita Vakili, Mojtaba Tajik, Niloufar Ghaderinezhad, Tahereh Samadi Tari[9], Flora Feizbakhsh, Mohammad Tabatabai, Kianusch Faried, Ojan Shirozhan. On 2nd of February 2018, Marked the official launch of CAMA Gallery Tehran's 4000 sq. ft. exhibition space. CAMA Gallery has received extensive press and media coverage. On 29th of March 2018, CAMA sold artworks at Christies auction through one of our proxy representatives. These 5 artworks were the same artworks on offer at the Master exhibition back in November, we held them back to demonstrate the value and collectability of the artwork CAMA Gallery showcased at just our opening ceremony. The Tehran museum of contemporary art provides certification to the endorsement and support of CAMA Gallery. The museum has over 5.5B USD of fine art in storage (largest collection outside Europe and America)

On 5th of April 2018, Launched its first international gallery space in London at St James' park with an exhibition titled "Sensation[10]." This highly successful exhibition showcased 51 artworks from 21 vibrant and dynamic contemporary Iranian artists such as Afshin Pirhashemi who has a strong history of his artwork being sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars through Christies auction houses. Bita Vakili[11] has also been announced the highest valued female artist from the Middle East[12]. Other works were present from Tahereh Samadi Tari, Fereydoon Omidi and Adel Younesi who all have profiles with Christies and have achieved fantastic results at auction. Added to this we reviewed main stream medias art critic endorsement. On 12th of May 2018, CAMA was awarded best new gallery by the Fine Art Trade Guild[13]. On 21st of May 2018, CAMA Gallery hosted an academic symposium presented by Reged Ahmad from the BBC world service, the discussion subject for the night was: Modern art in a turbulent time. Other attendees included art critics, auction house directors and journalists such as, Paula Weideger - Arts Journalist for Economist, Wall Street Journal and FT, Virginia Blackburn - FT,Reged Ahmed - BBC World, Lynn Gaspard - Sky News Arabia, Roxane Zand - Middle Eastern Contemporary Art, Sotheby's, Reyhan Day - Mayfair Times and Jayyab Abusafia - Sky News Arabia. CAMA Gallery Tehran showcased a solo exhibition for Ahmad Reza Ahmadi the most famous living Iranian poet. This collection of paintings was well received and supported by the art community in Iran. Moreover CAMA Tehran showcased a film directors group exhibition which included photographic works from Cannes award winning film directors Abbas Kiorastemi, Ebrahim Gholestan and Jafar Panahi who several weeks ago received a 5 minutes standing ovation at the Cannes Awards for not being able to be there to collect his award. On 27th of June 2018, CAMA Gallery collaborated with Blue Rhino foundation in Istanbul, Turkey and presented 11 Iranian artists along with 11 Turkish artists in a group exhibition which lasted 2 weeks and was titled "Immortality[14]". On 2nd of July 2018, CAMA Gallery London presented the first official luxury fashion collaboration between the National Gallery and Diamond Roc[15], London luxury leather brand. This was the first fashion collaboration conducted by the National Gallery and indicated a shift in the tide and further cross-over potential between fashion and art. During July - September 2018, the CAMA gallery exhibited[16] the work of Iranian artist Ali Nedaei, Mystical and mesmerising paintings influenced by Persian mythology. CAMA Gallery presented a solo exhibition showcasing works by Ali Nedaei[17]. Nedaei is considered one of the three best drawers in Iran and draws dramatic, bold and vibrant mythological depictions of masculinity and power, which caters for both artistic and decorative appeal. Famous art critic; Edward Lucie Smit defended the artwork and compared the exhibition to that of an earlier western masters work - with it being ahead of its time. From 2nd of November for two weeks a series of Time Lapse exhibitions[18] featured Iranian Directors including Abbas Kiarostami, Jafar Panahi, Kamran Shirdel, Majid Barzegar, Nasser Taghvai and Reza Kianian in Los Angeles[19]

CAMA's collection and hence the gallery's shows has had distinct phases, starting with Persian painters and artists, moving to the Persian photographists and directors, followed by shows purely of painting, and then returning to contemporary and modern art from Middle east at the CAMA Gallery in London and its branch in Tehran.

Philosophy[edit]

CAMA’s goal is to encourage and facilitate the dis-semination of Iranian art, honouring the pioneers and established masters while also identifying and attracting young talents. Amongst its primary goals, CAMA also professes the desire to encourage and facilitate the culture of buying and selling artworks, building an infrastructure to boost the economy of Iranian art market and taking advantage of a variety of specialised services. Through extensive collaborations with a network of professors, professionals and lead-ing experts in various fields of the art world, offering support and services across a education, research, exhibitions, curating and consultation, CAMA provides a unique context for thriving entrepreneurship for artists and art enthusiasts alike.
