From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Camp Wicosuta is a 60-acre sleep-away summer camp in Hebron, New Hampshire with close to 300 campers and 135 employees. It is a traditional resident summer camp for girls ages 7–16, and it is season from June to August. The camp lies on Newfound Lake which is recognized as one of the cleanest and clearest lakes in America, our waterfront boasts a white sand beach with a gradual incline into the water.

History[edit]

Camp Wicosuta was founded by Anna Rothman in 1920. Mrs. Rothman chose the name Wicosuta, derived from a Native American language, which means “strength of mind and body.” Her primary goal was to provide girls a place where they could take a break from school and the city. Campers traveled to camp via the Boston & Maine Railroad from New York’s Grand Central Terminal to Bristol, New Hampshire. Anna created the foundation of a camp that balances innovation alongside traditions that go back nearly 100 years. Current Wico girls hear about Anna each summer and feel proud to continue her legacy. Anna would be delighted to know that she laid the groundwork for generations of girls to come. In fact, her relatives attend Wicosuta to this day![1]
