Cayan Uddin Ahmet

Khan Bahadur Cayan Uddin Ahmet also known as "Chawyone Uddin Ahmed" was a Bengali zamindar, politician, and philanthropist based in Natore, Rajshahi. He was one of the first awardee of a graduate Master's degree in English Literature in 1895. Mr. Ahmet subsequently became the Chief Secretary of Bengal and was awarded the Khan Bahadur title, which was conferred exclusively on Muslim subjects of the British Indian Empire.[citation needed]

Early life[edit]

Cayan Uddin Ahmet grew up in Natore, Rajshahi. during the Rise of Indian muslim nationalism which ultimately led to the Bengal Presidency.[citation needed] During his early childhood, he was taught by private tutors and learned Arabic, Bangla, English, Persian, and Urdu languages. He was aligned and supportive of the All-India Muslim League (popularised as Muslim League) was a political party established during the early years of the 20th century in the British Indian Empire. Its strong advocacy for the establishment of a separate Muslim-majority nation-state, Pakistan, successfully led to the partition of British India in 1947 by the British Empire.[1]

Career[edit]

Cayan Uddin Ahmet worked with political colleagues and was aligned with the literary movement begun at The Aligarh Muslim University. He became the Chief Secretary of Bengal in 1905 and was awarded of the Khan Bahadur title, which was conferred exclusively on Muslim subjects of the British Indian Empire.
