Biography[edit]

Early life[edit]

Celso José Domingos Malavoloneke was born on the April 28, 1968 to Constantino Malavoloneke & Martha Shitula in the village of Katala, near the bank of the Cubano River in Bunjei, a border between Huila and Namibe in the country of Angola

His parents named him Celso because on the day of his birth his father and a group of friends, which included then governor Celso Vilanova & MP Fernando Muteka, returned from a hunt to find that Martha had given birth. The governor offered to be the Godfather of the newly born and thus became his namesake.

Celso grew up in a very protective household due to his albinism. The impoverished conditions that greatly affected the Southern Angolan region during the were particularly hard upon the Malavoloneke family as they found themselves having to migrate North towards the city of Lubango, capital of the Huila Province

He grew up particularly close to his mother, as his father would regularly travel around the country to teach in areas greatly affected by the war. It was in Lubango that Celso was introduced to the Roman Catholic Church

After secondary school, he traveled to Tchivinguiro to pursue his tertiary studies. At Tchivinguiro Celso also became a musician, often performing under the moniker 'Marthy Hitula' - a tribute to his mother.

Upon completion of his tertiary education his father was able to negotiate for Celso to be sent to Calgary, Canada to pursue his studies even further. Completely unheard of at a time when albinos were not seen as productive members of Angolan society. Celso was able to finish his studies abroad even after the premature passing of his mother.

Career[edit]

Later on, Celso would transfer to UNICEF to combat the increasing number of child soldiers in Angola. He would remain in this position until the resolution of the war in 2002.[2] In 2004, he was sent as part of a special delegation to Liberia to observe the growing political unrest.

In 2005, Celso once again returned to academia, now studying at the Universidade privada de Angola and became the first graduate in Media & Sociology. He also became the first Albino student at a major academic institution in the country

I'm 2007, Celso relinquished his positions at the United Nations(UNICEF) to pursue a career in business, becoming the director of MOVIMENTO - an Angolan marketing firm situated in Angola, Portugal & Brazil. He also became a columnist at the Seminario Angolense - a national newspaper in Angola as well as a university professor. [3]

In 2016, Celso became the director of the Gabinete of Communications, business and Social Development. Beginning his political career at the age of 48.[4]

In early 2017 Celso was nominated to become a senior political advisor to the Huambo Government, under the leadership of João Baptista Kussuma. In late 2017 he was nominated to serve as secretary of state of the Angolan Republic, under the Ministry of Social Communications, a term which he will serve for 4 years.[5]

Celso has been married to Veronica Franklin Malavoloneke since 1992.

An activist for Albinism in Africa who often credits Angola with being the best country for albinos in Southern Africa. He has spent several decades seeking to empower albinos within the southern African region. [6]
