The beginnings of the Centre for Advocacy & Research (CFAR) go back to 1998 when it got registered as Public Charitable Trust. A Board of Trustees and an Advisory Committee consisting of professionals and practitioners from the fields of social communication, research, journalism, social development, media critiquing and publishing steer CFAR’s vision, mission and engagements.
Addressing concerns of less privileged communities have been the cornerstone of all programs, partnerships, and innovations. The core competency of CFAR has been in facilitating communities to have sustained engagement, with all stakeholders including the media..[1]
CFAR has consistently adopted a collaborative approach and processes of training community representatives from marginalized and vulnerable communities and programme implementers to work together, articulate their respective concerns and needs and raise informed deliberation on policy, programme and governance reforms so as to improve the last mile delivery and impact planning, design and delivery.[2]
CFAR is registered as a Public Charitable Trust, with its Head Office in Delhi and project units in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, West Bengal, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh[3]

Centre for Advocacy & Research (CFAR) evolved from a collective called the 'Media Advocacy Group' in January 1998 with the aim of using strategic communication to impact the gender and social development discourse.[4]
