Chad Hype is a Jamaican dancehall, reggae performing artist.

Background[edit]

Born Chadwick Dilano May[citation needed] on 21 August 1993 in Kingston, Jamaica, is the son of 1980s dancehall pioneer Michael May aka Flourgon. Chad displayed his proclivity towards the music industry from a very tender age[citation needed] and began to hone his talent while growing up around individuals such as his father Flourgon, his uncle, veteran DJ Red Dragon, and other stalwarts in the industry such as Buju Banton, Sanchez and Daddy Lizard on "Sweet Love Disco", a sound system owned and operated by his father.[1]

After completing Calabar High School at age 16,[citation needed] Chad recorded his first single, "Drop It", on Jahvinile Production Label,[citation needed] which was reinvented by Grammy Award Winning Serge Tsai of Platinum Recording Studios for an International Flavor.[2]

Chad's most proclaimed production was for the remix of Billboard No. 28 song "My Love" by Shaliek featuring Chad Hype with success on online music platforms.[3]

Chad has performed as guest appearance alongside his father, Flourgon, at the Irie Jam Festival in 2012 and 2015 in Queens, New York.[4] Chad Hype has been featured most recently on OnStageTV,[5] a weekly entertainment show in Jamaica, alongside his father Flourgon discussing the US$300 million lawsuit filed against Sony Music and Miley Cyrus regarding copyright infringement in her single "We Can't Stop" and Flourgon's "We Run Things".[6][7]
