Chadwicks Group is Ireland's leading builder's merchanting company and home improvement specialist, operating with 50 branches and over 1,400 colleagues in Ireland. The Chadwicks Group offer customers a range of timber, building materials, steel and home improvement supplies including plumbing and heating products and equipment for hire. The Chadwicks Group has unrivalled knowledge and expertise in the construction sector and have been part of the fabric of everyday life in Ireland for over 200 years. The Chadwicks Group was rebranded from Grafton Merchanting ROI in 2019 as part of the company’s investment programme.

History

1818 – 1902 – The oldest part of the Chadwicks Group dates to 1818 when Thomas Heiton set up his business in Dublin as a coal importer and distributor meeting the needs of the growing city. The business diversified in the early 1900’s adding a sector specialising in iron products and from the 1960’s onwards additional products such as timber and plumbing products were added to the Heiton business.

1902 – 1950’s – The Chadwicks business was founded in 1902 by William Thomas Chadwick at Talbot Place in Dublin, supplying builder’s merchants and the major building contractors with cement and plaster produced in Ireland and abroad.

1950’s – 1960’s – In the 50’s the business expanded and moved to bigger premises in Walkinstown and adding new lines to its range of building products. Following on in the 1960’s further expansion took place and in 1967 the company opened its first branch outside Dublin, in Kilkenny.

Today – Chadwicks Group is Ireland’s Leading builder merchants and home improvement specialist. Chadwicks offer their customers a huge range of timber, building materials and home improvement supplies including plumbing and heating products and equipment for hire. The Chadwicks Group has over 50 branches across Ireland including: Chadwicks, Cork Builders Providers, Davies, Heiton Steel, Telford’s, Sam Hire and The Panelling Centre.

Cork Builders Providers operates in 2 locations within Cork City offering building materials and plumbing and heating.

Davies Group a key supplier for major infrastructural and commercial projects within the Republic of Ireland. Two locations in Dublin, Raheny and Sallynoggin.

Heiton Steel offering a full range of steel and Irelands largest steel stockholder.

Morgans Timber offering specialised range of timber and sheet materials.

Telfords offering a range of hardware, electrical and building materials based in Portlaoise.

Proline Architectural Hardware are the leading suppliers of architectural ironmongery and provides a range of design solutions for architects and interior designers.

The Panelling Centre supplying kitchens and wardrobes to home renovators and trades professionals.

Sitetech supplies quality concrete, brickwork and associated products to the construction industry.

Rebranding

In 2019 Grafton Merchanting ROI announced a nationwide rebranding programme to Chadwicks Group as part of a €5m investment programme that would include branch refurbishments and a technology upgrade to enhance the overall customer experience for the business. Heiton Buckley branches located around Ireland were rebranded to the Chadwicks brand as part of that programme.

Brands such as Heiton Steel, The Panelling Centre, Davies, Telfords and Cork Builders Providers retained their current brand name within the group as destination brands. A major investment was made into the Chadwicks Group branches which were refurbished and given a new look to ensure customers received a better consistency of experience and value across all branches within the Group.

In the overall project Chadwicks Group also invested in its technology systems to streamline the customer experience to make it easier and more convenient for its customers. Now customers can benefit from a centralised ERP system which allows them to access their credit accounts  from any of its locations nationwide.
