Cheaper by the Dozen is an American family comedy film. It will be released by Disney. It is a remake of the 1950 film of the same name. Both films were inspired by the real life Gilbreth family and the semi-autobiographical account of their lives as written in Cheaper by the Dozen by Frank Bunker Gilbreth Jr. and his sister Ernestine Gilbreth Carey. Gail Lerner is set to direct the film with a script co-written by Kenya Barris and Jenifer Rice-Genzuk Henry and will be distributed by 20th Century Studios and Disney+.

In 2016, Kenya Barris was interested in working with Fox to work on a new project for Cheaper by the Dozen.[2]

On August 6, 2019, following the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by Disney, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that a reboot of Cheaper by the Dozen is in development and would premiere on the company's streaming service, Disney+.[3][4] Gail Lerner is set to direct the film with a script co-written by Kenya Barris and Jenifer Rice-Genzuk Henry.[5]

Regina Hall was in talks to join the cast in April 2020.[6] Principal photography was scheduled to commence on July 13, 2020 in Los Angeles, California.[7]

More casting occurred in July 2020.[8]

By November 2020, Disney's new CEO Bob Chapek announced that filming on all movies that had been postponed by the coronavirus had resumed filming, and in some cases completed principal photography.[9]

The film was revealed at the Disney Investors Day.[1]
