Chief Radio is a radio station based in Edinburgh, Scotland. It is a station owned and run by Edinburgh musicians and began in 2020 . Achieving their first award in 2021, the Edinburgh News Local Hero Awards for Music and Art Category.[1]

History[edit]

The Owner and the Manager of the station play in Edinburgh band, Hanley and the Baird who released their debut single, 'Follow the Rainbows'[2] in 2020. The song charted at #3 in the Scottish Singles chart and number #27 in the Official UK Downloads chart. Despite, charting, commercial stations didn't pick up on the single and Kirsty Baird decided to create her own station that would offer an alternative. Kerry Thomson (Station Manager) spoke with Edinburgh Reporter, 'We are all about trying to create a level platform for unsigned bands, promote Scottish music.' [3]
