It is dedicated to the appreciation and understanding of contemporary photography and media arts images. It is bilingual, published in French and English..[1]

Each issue features large portfolios of artwork, essays by specialized writers, interviews, and extensive coverage of exhibitions, events, and publications. It is also recognized by the high quality of its reproductions and its printing[2].

History[edit]

The first issue of Ciel variable was launched on June 19, 1986 in Montreal[3]. In 1992, the magazine changed its name to CV Photo and, from that moment, it identified itself with "contemporary photography and its different tendencies"[4]. In 2004, it became Ciel variable - art photo média culture[5]

In 2010, Ciel variable made public all the texts and images published in its first 20 years of publication in a project supported by the Department of Canadian Heritage. New articles are added regularly.

Ciel variable is a member of the Société de développement des revues culturelles québécois (SODEP) and Magazines Canada.
