Clay's Redemption is a 2020 British neo-noir urban fantasy thriller film written and directed by Carlos Boellinger in his feature film directorial debut. Boellinger also served as the cinematographer and editor. It tells the story of Clay (Akie Kotabe), an enforcer for the Gods, who is given a final job: protect a deaf-mute young woman called Maya from the demon Learza.
Boellinger conceived the idea for the film after reading Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, and the notion that is more going on in the city than meets the eye. Boellinger also drawn inspiration from John Carpenter films.
Clay is a convict and a sleeve-walker - moving from body to body while serving his sentence as enforcer for Gods.
Within sight of earning his 'Exit', Clay is given one final job, to protect a deaf-mute young woman. By the time he realises there’s more to her than meets the eye: the job’s a set-up, his boss is dead, and there’s a demon on his tail.
And now it’s too late to remember: when you work for immortals there’s hell to pay.

Clay's Redemption is part action thriller, part neon-soaked fever dream, set in an asphalt jungle populated by hyper-real characters. Director and co-writer Carlos Boellinger cites bringing them to life as a key reason for making the film: “They rise in your mind from a mess of Bladerunner, Twilight Zone, graphic novel, badass action flicks.. all these things we grew up with in the 80s.. and rattle the cage till we set em free. So that’s what we did.”
Producer and co-writer Ivo Alexander credits portable technology as key to the production’s speed and versatility: “we shot mostly using low key, two tone lighting and cameras which excel in lowlight conditions.”
The characters’ look and wardrobe were almost entirely designed by creative producer Rona Walter, which included a collaboration with bleeding edge urban designer label Charli Cohen. Tin Cowboys also collaborate with rising star pop singer Nuuxs, in her acting debut as ‘Maya.’ and actress Charlie Blackwood after her debut in a lead role in the film Matriarch
Clay's Redemption came about after two years of searching for funding for a different project, when Carlos and Ivo (or ‘Tin Cowboys’ as they call themselves) realised all the actors, locations and technology needed to shoot a feature were already at their disposal. So they borrowed an old idea from the Coen brothers, and shot a trailer for ‘Clay’, which they then used to raise funds.
