Colvin Grannum

Colvin W. Grannum, Esq is an American businessman, lawyer, and philanthropist who currently serves as the CEO & President of Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation.[1]. He is also the co-chair of Bedford Stuyvesant Early Childhood Development Center and serves as a member of the boards of directors and a trustee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art[2]. Grannum has been involved in the Coalition for the Improvement of Bedford Stuyvesant (CIBS).

Early Life[edit]

Grannum was born June 18,1953 in the Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn[3]. He is a member of Beulah Church of the Nazarene.

Education[edit]

Grannum graduated from Erasmus Hall High School. After graduation, he pursued an undergraduate degree in Religion from the University of Pennsylvania. and a Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University.

Career[edit]

In 2001, Grannum was selected to served as the 4th president of the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, the nation’s first community development corporation[4]. He has led the successful resurgence of the organization, which serves over 50,000 people annually through its programs and facilities. During his tenure, $150 million in new investments in the local neighborhood commercial corridor, including mixed income housing, numerous  new businesses and the renovation and redesign of Restoration Plaza, the 300,000 square foot commercial and cultural center in the heart of Central Brooklyn[5]
