Creativity Lens Investing

Creativity lens investing is the practice of investing for financial return and social impact that looks at creative activity beyond the limits of art and culture and cuts across traditional investment sectors. The term builds off the model of gender lens investing, and was coined in 2016 by Upstart Co-Lab.

ImpactAlpha reported in 2018 that "Investment lenses are proliferating, for refugees and migrants, and forced labor and modern-day slavery, as well as the oceans, the caring economy and creativity and the arts."[1] As impact investing grows, there are more targeted opportunities aligned with investors' interests.

A creativity lens allows impact investors who value art, design, heritage and culture to bring opportunities in the creative economy into view. Companies within ethical sustainable fashion, sustainable food, and social impact media, and real estate developments including artist studios, cultural facilities, and light manufacturing space are all revealed through a creativity lens.
