CritterBis is an American fan-made parody comic series, a creative endeavor by the visionary cartoonist Julian Estes. The series officially launched in June 2025, drawing inspiration from the irreverent slapstick of The Three Stooges and the enduring charm of Archie Comics. CritterBis playfully reimagines these influences through a cast of anthropomorphic animal characters, categorized into the cheerful Smiling Critters, the melancholic Frowning Critters, and the terrifying Nightmare Critters. The comic aims to blend humor, heart, and a touch of the absurd, offering a unique twist on established comic tropes.

The Rich History and Unfolding Narrative of CritterBis:

The genesis of CritterBis lies in Julian Estes's desire to merge distinct comedic and narrative styles into a fresh, fan-driven comic experience. Recognizing the broad appeal of the slapstick comedy pioneered by The Three Stooges and the longevity of Archie Comics' character-driven storytelling, Estes sought to create a universe that could accommodate both whimsical adventures and more introspective moments. The decision to introduce distinct factions of Critters – Smiling, Frowning, and Nightmare – was a deliberate choice to foster dynamic interactions and thematic depth. The Smiling Critters represent the innocent, often naive, protagonists; the Frowning Critters embody a more world-weary or emotionally complex perspective; and the Nightmare Critters serve as antagonists or embodiments of fear and the uncanny.

The debut of CritterBis in June 2025 marked the culmination of Estes's creative vision. Early installments focused on establishing the core cast of characters and their immediate world, which is hinted to be a vibrant, albeit sometimes challenging, landscape inspired by the familiar settings of both the Stooges' antics and the idyllic towns often featured in Archie comics. The series' early reception has been positive, with fans appreciating the blend of nostalgic humor and original character design. CritterBis has quickly cultivated a dedicated following, drawn to its accessible humor, relatable character arcs, and the underlying potential for grander, more complex narratives. The deliberate inclusion of character-specific scents and pendant motifs adds a unique layer of detail, hinting at deeper symbolic meanings or even magical properties within the CritterBis universe. The series is poised to explore themes of friendship, overcoming adversity, the duality of emotions, and the constant struggle between light and darkness, all through the lens of its diverse and engaging cast.

**The Diverse and Distinctive Cast of CritterBis:**

The heart of CritterBis lies in its vibrant and multifaceted cast of characters, each with their own unique personalities, quirks, and symbolic adornments, deep in the heart of CritterVille.

  • DogDay (The Protagonist): An orange, vanilla-scented canine who serves as the de facto leader. Inspired by Archie Andrews, he is the "everyman" who tries to keep his group together. Despite his Sun Pendant, he is often the most stressed, acting as the "Straight Man" to his friends' Stooge-like antics.
  • Bobby BearHug: A rose-scented bear with a Heart Pendant. Her love is literal and physical; she is known for "Aggressive Affection," giving hugs so tight they occasionally flatten her friends. She is the group's moral heart, even if she is completely oblivious to danger.
  • Bubba Bubbaphant: A lemongrass-scented blue elephant with a Lightbulb Pendant. He is the resident genius, but his "Archie-Dilton" level of intelligence is often undermined by "Stooge-level" bad luck. His inventions almost always explode in a cloud of citrus-scented glitter.
  • CraftyCorn: A jasmine-scented unicorn with a Flower Pendant. A visionary artist who sees the world as a canvas. When her art is criticized, she enters a "zen-like" trance that can lead to comedic, messy masterpieces involving gallons of paint.
  • Hoppy Hopscotch: A peppermint-scented bunny with a Bolt Pendant. She is the "Moe Howard" of the group. Impatient, foul-tempered, and lightning-fast, she has zero tolerance for the Frowning Critters' nonsense and is the first to start a slapstick brawl.
  • KickinChicken: A ylang-ylang-scented chicken with a Star Pendant. The "cool guy" who wears sunglasses at night. He is obsessed with his image, but his attempts to look smooth usually result in him tripping over his own tail feathers.
  • PickyPiggy: A citrus-scented pig with an Apple Pendant. A food connoisseur whose stomach has a mind of its own. She can sniff out a bakery from three miles away, often derailing the group's adventures in search of the perfect pastry.

☁️ The Frowning Critters

  • CatFeine: A jittery cat with an Eclipse Pendant. She smells like burnt coffee and has not slept since the comic’s inception. She represents pure, unbridled anxiety and cosmic dread.
  • DogPressed: The antithesis of DogDay. Wearing a Black Cloud Pendant, he is a philosopher of doom who finds the downside to every victory. He is the rain on everyone's parade.
  • Floppy FlopZee: A rabbit with a Z-shaped Lightning Pendant. She is the embodiment of chronic fatigue, often seen dragging her own ears behind her like a heavy blanket.
  • Groddy Grudgebear: A bear with a Heartbreaking Pendant. Unlike Bobby, Groddy never forgets a slight. He keeps a ledger of every time someone didn't say "please," planning minor inconveniences for them years in advance.
  • UniqueCorn: A unicorn with a Light Blue Ball Pendant. She represents the "weird" side of art. She speaks in riddles and is often accompanied by strange, floating abstract shapes that defy the laws of physics.
  • Dumbba Dumbbaphant: An elephant with a Broken Light Bulb. He is the "Stooge" who took one too many hits to the head. He is kind-hearted but possesses a logic so surreal it leaves everyone else speechless.
  • Icky Piggy: A pig with a Green Apple Pendant. She represents envy, always wanting what the Smiling Critters have but lacking the "flavor" to get it.
  • Wimpin Chikin: A chicken with an X Pendant. The purest form of cowardice. He is terrified of his own shadow, and his pendant "X" marks the spot where he usually faints from fear.

🌙 The Nightmare Critters (The Existential Shadows)

  • Baba Chops (The Leader): An elegant but sinister black sheep. She views the Smiling Critters' optimism as a social disease and spends her time orchestrating elaborate pranks to "unmask" the truth of the world.
  • Icky Licky: A chaotic amphibian with an impossibly long tongue. He is the physical comedian of the Frowners, using his tongue like a whip to steal hats, lunchboxes, and pendants from the Smiling Critters.
  • Rabie Baby: A small, hyperactive mammal who is the town’s primary source of "fake news." She uses her Bat-like ears to intercept gossip and spread scandalous (and usually false) rumors about DogDay’s leadership.
  • Allister Gator: A massive, lazy alligator. He is the enforcer of the group, but his "enforcement" usually consists of lying across the road and refusing to move until he's given a nap or a sandwich.
  • Simon Smoke: A narcissistic, dragon-like socialite. He considers himself the "Reggie Mantle" of CritterBis—better looking and richer than everyone else. He breathes smoke rings when he’s annoyed, which is always.
  • Poe: A graveyard-dwelling raven who writes melodramatic poetry. He finds sunlight "loud" and "tacky," preferring to hang out in the shadows and critique the Smiling Critters' fashion choices.
  • Touille: A grease-smudged rat who collects "treasures" (trash). He is the group's scavenger, often building mechanical monstrosities out of discarded tuna cans and old wires.
  • Maggie Mako: A shark character who is perpetually "hangry." She doesn't care about Baba Chops' plans; she just wants to know if there will be snacks at the end of the scheme.
