Crowdsourcer.io is a web based platform where members of the public can collaborate on projects and earn a share of the profits based on their contribution. Crowdsourcer.io's claim is that it's providing a new way of running businesses, one that it believes is more equitable in its payment structure.

History[edit]

Crowdsourcer.io was launched on June 1 2017[1], by Michael Daniel. The company is based in Plymouth, UK. According to its creator the platform was built to fill a funding gap in the technology sector, often claiming that Venture Capital falls short for most new startups.[2] He has also expressed his concern for the oversaturation of the Mobile App markets contributing to a reduced developer livelihood.[3]

As of September 2018, Crowdsourcer.io has projects based in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, Netherlands, Germany and France.[4]

Competitors[edit]

Model[edit]

Crowdsourcer.io employs its own implementation of Profit sharing. The platforms allows users to create their own project to which members of the public can join and collaborate on. As members of a project complete tasks in a project, they earn "Contribution Points".[5] A proportional split of profits earned by the project is performed based on the number of points each member has accrued.[6]

Categories[edit]

Creators categorise their projects into one of 5 categories and 28 subcategories. The main categories are currently Video Game, Mobile App, Computer Application, Web Application and digital media.[7]

Business Model[edit]

Once a project starts making sales Crowdsourcer takes 17.5% commission if the sales are through the Crowdsourcer.io site and/or via a widget; or 6% if via the payroll system.[8]

Media Coverage[edit]

Crowdsourcer.io has been mentioned in VentureBeat, App Developer Magazine, Slashdot and Smashing Magazine.
