    Crystal Newman is a Ugandan radio personality and TV presenter, corporate MC, digital influencer, motivational speaker and Mrs World - Uganda 2011[1][2]. She hosted The Drive and Hit Selector shows with exclusive celebrity interviews on 88.2 Sanyu FM. She retired from radio in August 2018 after her eighteen year radio career all at Sanyu FM.[3]

    She is well known for hosting TV shows such as Show me the Money, Trends, Children in our Lives, as a field presenter for Big Brother Africa and host of NSSF Friends With Benefits 2016 and 2018 with Gaetano Kagwa[4][5][6].

    She has worked as a campaign ambassador for Uganda Breweries Red Card to drive an Anti-drunk driving crusade and promote safe driving and responsible drinking[7]. She also is one of Uganda's most sought after emcees hosting major corporate events. Crystal Newman was recently appointed a Goodwill ambassador for the Uganda Red Cross and is a passionate advocate for the rights of women and children.

    Crystal was listed number 18 on the Top 40 Most Sexy and Brainy Women in Uganda, a list combined by Elle Afrique Magazine in 2013[8][9] and media outlets have called her different titles including Uganda's hottest radio personality y Ugpulse[10]. She has been interviewed by and also appeared on the cover of a number of magazines including Full Woman[11], Citizen[12] and so many others. She has herself interviewed a number of personalities like BBC's Nancy Kacungira, Juliana Kanyomozi, the late Mowzey Radio and so many others.

    Crystal started working as a Public Relations Officer (P.R.O) for Kampala Casino at the age of 22. In 2005 she quit Public Relations to concentrate on her radio career.

    Crystal hosted a number of shows at 88.2 Sanyu FM in Kampala. She co-hosted The Morning Breakfast from 2000 - 2003 and now presents The Drive Show (since 2005) and Hit Selector (since 2003). Her celebrity interview segment of Hit Selector called Celeb Select which she started in 2016, has garnered a lot of positive reviews and has featured almost all Ugandan celebrities[13]. The two shows garnered her nominations for the Best Radio Host of the Year 2017[14]

    Crystal's debut on TV was at NTV Uganda in 2007 where she hosted a business challenge show called Show Me The Money and she has since gone on to host various shows.

    Personal Life[edit | edit source]

    She was born in Nairobi to Sande Newman (father), a Ugandan retired pilot and Alex Newman (mother), a retired UNHCR worker of mixed English-Ugandan race. Crystal spent most of her childhood in Zambia until she was 10 when the family returned to Uganda.

    Crystal attended Makerere College for both her "O" and "A" levels. She then joined Makerere University where she graduated with a bachelors degree in Mass Communication.

    She got married in 2005 to Fred Kavulu[24] and the couple have three children[25]. In 2011 she was crowned Mrs World-Uganda and represented Uganda at the Mrs World pageant in Florida, USA.
