History[edit]

Shueisha, the predecessor of DNP, was founded in the Ginza district of Tokyo in 1876, shortly after Japan's Meiji Restoration. In 1886, Shueisha built a factory in Tokyo's Ichigaya district and in 1923, after the Great Kanto Earthquake, the Company's head office functions were consolidated in Ichigaya. In the late 1920s, the introduction of low-priced collections of literary works led to the "one-yen book boom." In 1935, Shueisha made a fresh start by merging with Nisshin Printing Co., Ltd. to form Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. Since then, Dai Nippon Printing (DNP) has further invested its strenghts on printing/coating technologies. In the early 1980s, Dai Nippon Printing started business development in thermal transfer ribbon technology. In 2008 Sony Chemical[3]'s thermal transfer printing division was transferred to Dai Nippon Printing Co. Ltd. With the merge of Sony Chemical's TTR division, DNP's Imagingcomm division was established.

Operations[edit]

DNP Imagingcomm Europe has three main product lines: thermal transfer ribbons (TTR), photo products and holographic materials.
