Dan Marshall (Daniel David Marshall) is a professor at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. Marshall was born in Ottawa. He grew up in the town of Kenmore, Ontario and attended public and high school in Metcalfe, Ontario. He was awarded and MSc (with distinction) from Carleton University in Ottawa in 1990 on the Cobalt silver veins, and in 1995 received a DSc from the University of Lausanne in Switzerland on the tectonic evolution of the Mont Blanc Massif. He has extensive experience in economic geology, ore petrology, geochemistry, and fluid inclusions. Marshall is the lead author on the Ore Mineral Atlas, and has been awarded numerous grants, awards and medals including the Hawley, Robinson, and CIM Distinguished Lecturer. He has served as associate editor or board member of a number of peer-reviewed scientific journals. He has also served as president of the Mineral Deposits Division of the Geological Association of Canada and the Geological Society of the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. He is currently vice-president and incoming president of Mineralogical Association of Canada. Additionally, Marshall has been principal investigator and supervised students on a number of academic, government and industry led national and international projects.[1]
