The Daolaogui (Chinese: 刀劳鬼; pinyin: Dāoláoguǐ; literally: Knife-laboring ghost) is a ghost that often haunts the deep mountains of the Linchuan area of Jiangxi Province.[1]

Characteristics[edit]

When the Daolaogui appears, it is often accompanied by strong winds and heavy rain. The sound of the Daolaogui resembles a grown man roaring. The reason it appears accompanied by strong winds and heavy rains may be that it wants to hide its voice.

The appearance of the Daolaogui is terrifying. The skin of the males are dark green while the skin of the females are purple. The Daolaogui can exhale a highly poisonous gas that can cause areas affected to swell and turn humans in into a Daolaogui in less than a day. Male Daolaogui is more potent than those from females. The cures for the Daolaogui poison is either burning the swelled areas or cutting them off.[2][3]

The range of the Daolaogui is limited, preferring to hide in damp and cold places in the deep mountain. Their movement is also not really fast so it's easy to escape them.
