Dayanand Bhram Mahavidyala, Hisar is a public funded UGC recognized college, previously affiliated to Kurukshetra University and now affiliated with Guru Jambheswar University Hisar, located in Hisar in the Indian state of Haryana.[1]

History[edit]

In 1886, the "vedic ashram" was first established at Lahore as vedic ashram to disseminate vedic philosophy and to train Arya Samaji preachers, which was renamed "Dayanand Bhram Mahavidyala" in 1921, moved to Jalandhar during the 1947 Partition of India, then to Shamchurasi in Hoshiarpur district, then finally to Hisar in 1956 by Dr. Mehar Chand Mahajan, the former Chief Justice of India and then President of D.A.V. College Managing Committee with the assistance of principal Gian Chand Mahajan of Dayanand Collage Hisar.[2][3][4][5]

Student life[edit]

Students study vedic subjects in the Guru–shishya tradition parampara of Rishi Dayananda Saraswati of arya samaj sampradaya in the residential gurukula setting, for whom it is mandatory to wear the traditional Indian attire. There are 50 pupil studying here.[2] Students are taught vedic knowledge, sanskrit, English, computer, etc. Regular events and celebrations are held at the institute, such as republic day,[6] satsang[7] and katha (traditional story telling).[8]

From various institutes, notably Sampurnanand Sanskrit University (est. 1791 CE) and Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan (est. 1970), following can be obtained:[9]

  2. Shastri, Masters degree in Vedic studies in Sanskrit
  3. Acharya, Doctoral degree in Vedic studies in Sanskrit which entitles the hold to use the title "pandit"
