Deanna Sgro (born April 12, 1966) is a Canadian politician, lawyer, mother, and community advocate. She is the daughter of Judy Sgro, Member of Parliament for Humber River—Black Creek, and Italian immigrant Sam Sgro. In 2018 she was a candidate for Member of Provincial Parliament for Humber River—Black Creek and City Councillor in the 2018 Toronto municipal election in ward 7.

Early Life[edit]

Attended Madonna High School and completed her high school program in 4 years instead of 5. Graduated from York University with a BA in Public Policy and Administration. Graduated from Osgoode Law School and was called to the bar in 1994. Member in good standing of the LSO (formerly LSUC) since her call in 1994. Completed her LLM at Osgoode Hall Law School in 2012 specialising in Public Policy and Administration..[1]


A member of several organisations, Deanna just recently became a Board Member at the Elspeth Heyworth Center for Women.[2] She has also volunteered at Pro Bono Ontario, offering free legal advice to those who couldn't afford it.[3]


Lawyer with Management Board Secretariat, Province of Ontario then General Counsel for Canadian Company TCR.[4] Thereafter became VP and General Counsel of Affinity Global.[5]


Provincial Politics[edit]

In the 2018 Ontario general election, she was the Liberal candidate for the Humber River—Black Creek riding.

Municipal Politics[edit]

In the 2018 Toronto Municipal Election, she ran for city councillor for Ward 7. Due to the combining of wards 7 and 8, she was up against two incumbents who were desperately seeking to hold on to their seats[6]. She was credited as being the reason incumbent Giorgio Mammoliti lost his seat after 23 years. "Without Deanna Sgro, we would have won"[7]
