Deccan Rummy Carnival

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Deccan Rummy Carnival, simply called a Deccan Carnival[1] is a virtual carnival to celebrate the diversity of India. A real-world carnival game challenges the physical ability of the players. This online carnival aims at challenging the intellect of people through skill games.[2][3]

Indian Rummy[edit]

Indian Rummy is a popular variant of the rummy game played in India. Main festivals and similar occasions seem incomplete without rummy games involved. The basic requirement for winning a hand is making valid sets and sequences out of 13 cards dealt with each player. At least one of the two sequences formed must be "pure", i.e., without making use of any jokers. With the digitization of the gaming world, this Indian version of rummy is now available online. Online rummy attracts a huge attention as compared to other gaming portals and is equally liked by Indian families alongside the younger generation.

Celebrating India[edit]

The most important aspect of this travelling carnival is the location-oriented celebration. The idea is similar to a circus being set up in open fields near or in town and moving to a new location after a period of time but in digital form. Rummy Raani, who is the host avatar of this digital rummy celebration, enjoys travelling throughout India and collecting information about the specialities of important places. India is hailed as one of the most complex amalgamations of various cultural identities. Cities are selected in succession and a week-long celebration is held for each city. This ensures that the rich culture and heritage of that place are made known to all the participating players.

Carnival Episodes[edit]

Deccan Rummy has featured two episodes of Carnival so far, as their avatar began her tour of the Deccan States in India.

  • The first episode was conducted celebrating Guntur and the event was given the name Glorious Guntur[4]. The rummy tables were set in Guntur chilli market background to denote the chief agricultural product of the place. The legendary jester Tenali Ramakrishna and the native dance form Kuchipudi were celebrated during the Guntur carnival. True to the name carnival, the event was fun filled and its appeal was warmly embraced by the online gaming community.
  • The second episode was conducted celebrating Chennai and the event was given the title Namma ooru Madras[5]. The tables were set in Marina beach background and further, as a test to the gaming skill of players, two skill promotions were announced - Marina Matches and Fo(u)r Central.
    • Marina Matches was to form the longest 5 cards pure sequence to celebrate the longest natural urban beach of India.
    • Fo(u)r Central was to form 4 cards of 4(4♥-4♦-4♠-4♣) to celebrate the historical Chennai Central railway station that connected the 4 corners of India.
