Denelle Bahagwandhin born June 18th, 1995), professionally known as Denel, is a New Zeland singer and songwriter. In 2011, after a chance meeting with producer Louis Bernstone he later signed with New Zealand based record label Ellamy Records. Through a special arrangement, Denelle Aka Denel released his first full-length album Verse One, debuting at number 16 on The New Zealand top 20 Charts, as well as number 7 on the New Zealand Independent Charts.

Early life and education[edit]

Denelle AKA Denel was born in Johannesburg, South Africa on June 18th, 1995. At the age of 5, his family moved to New Zealand and continues to reside there”.

Influences[edit]

His musical aesthetic is deeply influenced by his father's love of jazz, his multi-cultural background and up-bringing, as well as inspiration from the likes of modern contemporary artists such as Michael Jackson, Chris Brown and Ne-Yo.

Career[edit]

In 2011 through a chance meeting at Ellamy Recording Studios his Father/Manager negotiated an arrangement with producer Louis Bernstone. In March of 2011 of that year, Denelle AKA Denel released his first E.P a self-titled set of four songs containing the single Fly Away.

In a follow-up to the E.P In 2013 Ellamy Records released Denelle AKA Denel's first album Verse One a 10 songs set written and composed by himself and produced with then collaborator Louis Bernstone supported by the singles "Stay Behind," and "Say I'm Sorry."

By 2014 he released a new single entitled “Tonight” with a free public concert at Botany Town Center in Auckland, New Zealand.

In 2015,Denelle AKA Denel released the single “Imperfectly Perfect” with electronic R&B group Jupiter Project In NZ. After the release of the video for “Imperfectly Perfect”. GirlTalkHQ called the song the “Feminist Anthem” of the summer. Following this collaboration, Denel released a second single entitled Staring At you.

Achievements[edit]

In November 2013, the album Verse One rose to number 16 on the New Zealand top 20 music charts, same album also reached the 7 position on New Zealand Independent Charts. In June 2015, His single Imperfectly Perfect enters NZ Radio Vision 100 music chart spending 5 weeks at Number 1 position and 5 months on the chart.
