Dhamma Chakra[edit]

History[edit]

Around 2300 years ago Emperor Ashoka erected an edict’s pillar in this village in his lifetime and during the 13th century A.D. Feroz Shah Tughlaq dismantled, transported and re-installs this edicts pillar at Kotla, New Delhi. In the Present time it is the only edict’s pillar in the whole of the Indian subcontinent, which has 7 sets of inscriptions over it. In order to revive the lost glory of the village, an iron chakra with 24 spokes, made. This was concepted by Dr. Satyadeep Neil Gauri founder of ‘The Buddhist Forum’ two years back. .Since its inception, it is called 'Dhamma Chakka' in Pali, 'Dharma Chakra' in Sanskrit and 'Ashoka Chakra' nowadays. In the past, Dhamma Chakra symbolized not only the Buddha, but also Dharma teachings taught by Him. It was Emperor Asoka, who officially adopted Dhamma Chakra on edicts pillars he installed throughout the Indian subcontinent for the propagation of Dharma. Presently the same 24 spokes chakra is on our ‘Four Lion’ national emblem and also in the centre of our ‘National Flag’.

Why Asoka Edicts Park ?[edit]

In the present times, when conflict and violence prevails among the world nations, perpetually threatening the use of weapons of mass destruction, thereby causing devastation of the Planet, the Philosophy of Asoka’s rule provides us with a solution and insight into the means with which the state could be ruled by bringing happiness and prosperity among the people of state and of other neighbouring countries also.

Emperor Asoka is the only example in the world history, who ruled his empire with principles of ethics, morality & non-violence and caused benefit for his neighbouring nations also.
