Dhruv Patel (Gujarati: ધ્રુવ પટેલ) (born in 1983 in London) is a British businessman, community organiser and politician.
Career[edit]
Having worked as an Executive at Barclays Capital,[1] Patel was successfully elected as an Independent Common Councilman in the Aldgate Ward, City of London in 2013.[2] In 2015, Patel was appointed deputy chair of the Health and Social Care Committee before being appointed as the first person of a BAME background to chair the Community and Children’s Services responsible for a wide range of local authority functions including schools, adoption and fostering, homelessness, housing, and careers guidance in the Square Mile.[3]
In addition to being a Common Councilman, Patel is a Liveryman for The Clothworkers Company and a member of the Property Committee which is responsible for managing £3 billion in real estate assets.[4]
He is the founding Chairman of the City Hindus Network, an organisation in the City of London representing the interests of over 3,000 Hindu professionals[5] and also Chairman of the Local Governing Body Avanti Court Primary School in Redbridge which forms part of Avanti Schools Trust [6]
Patel became the first person to organise the Hindu festival of Diwali at Mansion House, the official residence of the Lord Mayor of London in 2015[7] and enjoys writing about the UK economy, banking and finance. [8]
Awards and recognition[edit]
In the 2018 Queen's Birthday Honours, Patel was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to the British Hindu community and promoting social cohesion.[9] [10]
