Distrelec is a Swiss electronic component distributor that operates in over 20 countries..[1]

Distrelec is a subsidiary of Dätwyler Schweiz AG. Within the Dätwyler concern, Distrelec is organised in the Technical Components division[2], alongside sister companies Reichelt and Nedis. The division is one of the leading European high-service distributors of components and accessories in IT, electronics and engineering.

The company has over 750 employees across Europe.

History[edit]

Distrelec was founded in Switzerland in 1973 and has been a member of the stock-exchange-listed Dätwyler concern since 1979[3].

In 2001 Distrelec acquired the German Schuricht GmbH (now Distrelec Schuricht GmbH).

In 2008 the company acquired Swedish company Elfa (rebranded as Elfa Distrelec in 2011[4]).

Christina Aqvist was appointed CEO in 2016, having been with Distrelec since 2011 as Country Manager Sweden and Deputy CEO of Elfa Distrelec. In 2014, she was promoted to CEO of Elfa Distrelec AB[5].

In 2017 Distrelec made the decision to develop an enterprise hub in Manchester, England to centralise certain important European functions, consolidating them from Sweden, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. This move saw the loss of 90 job roles across Europe[6], but brought over 100 jobs to Manchester[7]. The Manchester office is responsible for all product, supplier, inventory management, purchasing, e-commerce, digital and marketing functions[8].

E-commerce[edit]

Distrelec serves over 1 million customers and has web shops and catalogues in 16 languages.

The websites have products from more than 1,000 suppliers, including Fluke, Tektronix, Panasonic, Moxa, Siemans, Traco Power and Mean Well.

In 2018 Distrelec established a microsite called Current which consists of further information surrounding electronics and their applications[9]

Distrelec’s first white paper – A Guide to Robotics and Automation – was published in April 2018.

Awards[edit]

Distrelec has won awards from its suppliers, including:

  • Würth Elektronik eiSos Special Achievement Award 2017[10]
  • Tektronix Best Performing Partner 2017[11]
  • Tektronix High Service provider of the Year 2017[12]
