Divii School

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Divii School was a start-up company which first focused on the conversion of paper textbooks to its own form of platform, DvBook, but now it has become a company which focuses on LMS and cloud sync service. Compared to already-existing e-book websites, such as Kyobo (a Korean publisher), Amazon, Yes24 (Korean publisher), 리디북스 (Korean …), and Naver N-Store (Korean…),, Divii School and its textbook platform DvBooks differs itself from already-existing companies by allows the users to search for live video examples from Youtube and dictionary definition search at once.

Establishment and Development[edit]

Subcommune, current Divii School’s parent company, was established by MinKyu Koo, the chief representative of cooperation in India, U.S., and Korea and started what now is called Divii School. After 1~2 gap years, Subcommune tried creating and expanding Divii Dictionary but failed, and then established and completed Divii School, a website which primarily focused on holistic development and distribution of e-textbooks. After that, Subcommune developed and entered the application market by launching applications both for Apple app store and Google Play store, and now it has successfully implemented LMS distribution and cloud sync service, so-called DvClass and DvNote. Crowded as it is right now, the publishing & distributing market of textbooks is certainly a danger for anyone. Divii has made a number of alliances and partnerships with major publishing companies such as 천재교육 (a Korean ….), 다락원 (), but its size and revenue is not comparable compared to other publishing companies.

Textbooks[edit]

Its majority consists of a number of foreign language studies and prep materials for foreign language examinations such as, TOEIC, TOEFL, HSK, JLPT. The website is running primarily based on a freemium service structure, which shows the first few chapters for free when the user searches for books, and the rest is locked by the website for payment. Of course, the pricing is a lot more affordable compared to already-existing published textbooks, but it is not that attractive to use such service in countries such as Korea, India, and other nations.

Characteristics[edit]

Compared to existing e-books, Divii has implemented a vertical-scrolling system which suits the mobile/pc platform and maximizes the user’s accessibility. Previously existing e-books all required a supportable device and its own application to load their contents, which made many companies difficult to be used in many countries, but Divii has successfully resolved this issue by basing its service on an application and Website. It has successfully differentiated from other e-book services by making its service able to be used on a phone with Wi-fi and its application and on a computer screen with a computer and internet connection. It is providing a freemium revenue structure for now, offering the users services such as e-book, dictionary, and video example searches. When the user first looks up a book, the first few chapters are opened for free, but the proceeding contents should be unlocked by using a payment method or a coupon.

DvBook[edit]

DvBook’s main e-book distribution service; it has enabled the users to download textbooks for a little bit cheaper price and use it for a certain amount of time. Its main advertisements include video example searches (primarily from Youtube) and live dictionary definition searches, but YouTube video search is currently unstable, and dictionary definition search is mostly working on English textbooks, but it’s not the same for Chinese and Japanese words; it sometimes shows irrelevant results or even no result at all.

English[edit]

For English, it is selling textbooks regarding topics such as TOEIC, Conversation, For Beginners, Business, TOEFL, MS/HS, and TEPS, and it is focusing on creating alliances and partnerships with other major publishing companies and published e-text versions of already-published textbooks. In Korean society, in which English ability equals authority and power, it does not seem strange for Divii to focus on English, but it should not be neglected that major English teaching companies, such as Hackers, 시원스쿨, and YBM are overwhelming Divii in a large scale.

Chinese[edit]

There are a number of options, just like English, such as HSK, Conversation, Vocabulary, and so on. However, customers who wish to study Chinese primarily use academies such as 문정아중국어 (Korean…) and 이얼싼중국어 (Korean…), so it is not influential that much.

Japanese[edit]

Japanese also shares the similar aspects like the Chinese textbooks. There are many categories such as JLPT, Tour, For Beginners, and so on, but it is majorly focusing on JLPT textbooks.

DvClass[edit]

An additional service provided by Divii along with DvBook. When the user first makes a purchase, DvClass provides a service in which the user can share the book with others or discuss about it with others. However, the system itself is not popular among the public, so this function’s usefulness is questionable. Of course it might be too early to say that Divii has a LMS system just because it has a chatting program, but this service definitely has a possibility of growth.

DvNote[edit]

DvNote is not like Evernote, which allows the users to access personal notes from anywhere, anytime, but rather it saves the bookmarks or vocabularies that the user has searched for while using DvBook and loads it for the users. Compared to its fancy name, it provides limited number of services.

DvAnalytics[edit]

DvAnalytics is an another additional function of DvBook, which enables the users to analyze the questions that one got correct or wrong. However, it does not have the accuracy or depth compared to other services such as 산타토익 (). It simply contains a function which tells the user how many questions that the user has gotten correct or wrong, and allows the user to review the questions.
