Sunil Pati, popularly known as Dolly Chaiwala, is a tea shop owner in Nagpur, India.[1][2] He sells the traditional Indian tea (also known as chai) at his tapri-style cart.[3][4]
He is known for his nifty style for pouring tea to customers and lighting their cigarettes (which he also sells along with other items at his tea cart).[3] Although he started as receiving online attention for his catchy outfit and peculiar style,[5] he later became a viral internet sensation among netizens.[3][1]
Personal Life[edit]
Most popularly known by his nickname "Dolly Chaiwala", his real name is "Sunil Pati".
According to source, Pati has been selling tea since 2007.[3] Pati also confirmed that his flamboyant mannerisms are inspired by the famous Indian actor, Rajnikanth (Shivaji Rao Gaikwad).[6] The actor has a career spanning five decades and worked in over 170 films.[7] He predominantly appears in Tamil Cinema, he has also done movies in Hindi, Telugu, Malyayalam, Bengali, and Kennada languages.[8][9]
Following his rise to fame on the internet and social media platforms, he also appeared in numerous media outlets and news coverage. He collaborated with renowned Bollywood celebrities as well, including Sohail Khan when he was vacationing in the Maldives.in March of 2024.[10][11] Sohail Khan is an Indian actor and brother of Bollywood superstar, Salman Khan.
He recently attended Anant Ambani's pre-wedding bash,[12] who is the son of Mukesh Ambani, an Indian businessman and the chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries.[13][14]
An article in The Economic Times reported that his "fashion sense and antics" could be inspired by the famous Turkish butcher, restaurateur, and chef, Nusret Gökçe.[15]
Gökçe, more popularly known as "Salt Bae" for his iconic way of seasoning and prepping meat, is the founder and owner of the luxury food chain, Nusr-Et.[16] His way of salting and slapping the meat while preparing it gained widespread attention on social media and other internet platforms, soon becoming an internet meme.[17][18]
Collaboration with Bill Gates[edit]
Recently, he collaborated with Bill Gates in Hyderabad, India.[1][3] Dolly prepared a cup of tea as Gates was seen admiring the tea seller's unique way of cooking and pouring tea, the world's second most popular and largely consumed drink,[19] before taking a sip.[3][4]
Rumors About Windows 12 Brand Ambassador[edit]
In a humorous post by a satirical news account on Instagram, Bindu Times reported that "Dolly Chaiwala made brand ambassador for Windows 12."[20]
Although it was later confirmed that the news was satirical and intended as an online joke to garner attention, it went viral. The undeclared joke went viral and gained immense attention by online users on social media platforms and news accounts.[21][22]
