DR EGGS is a band best described as a melting pot of hip hop, punk rock, electronic music and everything else you could imagine[1]. Formed in 1996 by lead vocalist Joul, the doctor and mastermind behind this concept, at the age of 16 in Montpellier, France.

Two months after the band was formed, DR EGGS played their first show in their home town Montpellier.

Since then, the band has delivered over 400 high energy gigs in the last 22 years across the globe. From the world famous Whisky a Go Go, to local festivals in Taiwan or Reunion Island, and recently India. The band even went on a three-year tour to 50 prisons in France, to bring music and entertainment to prisoners.

DR EGGS’ music videos “Back” (shot in Hong Kong) and “Little Thing” (shot in Nepal) were featured on MTV Asia and Channel V.

History[edit]

Formation and France tour (1996 – 2002)[edit]

DR.EGGS was mainly touring around France, including a three-year tour to over 50 prisons across France.

  • 1996, released their first 6-track cassette <<Smash a Geuban>>
  • 1998, debuted first demo cd << 50 millions vont l’écouter !! >>. And had a full house at the famous “Rockstore” in Montpellier.
  • 2000, released << Ragga Pounk Ska >> with << 4zarts >> as co-producer. With the release of this LP, DR. EGGS started to play with some of the most popular bands from the French ska scene ( Spook and the guay, RWMS, Kargols, Babylon Circus, Maximum Kouette)
  • In the meantime, DR.EGGS changed its musical line, fed-up with the enormous Ska-Punk wave,they decided to change their music radically to a fusion of styles, and build up their first full album with << Skalopards Prodz >> as co-producer and <<Mosaic>> as the distributor all around France.

Europe tour (2002 – 2005)[edit]

DR.EGGS was on a Europe tour, with 162 shows in UK, Switzerland, Belgium and France.

  • 2004, the first album << Peep Show[2] >> was released in February. The Tour << Parking Street >>, that followed this album, was well received by the French music scene as << Tremplin National Overlook of Bergerac>>.
  • 2005, run-down by the tour, the band decided to split up and Joul moved to Hong Kong to pursue the music scene in Asia.

Transformation (2005 - 2007)[edit]

After moving to Hong Kong, Joul played with local musician, starting a whole new chapter of Dr. Eggs.

  • 2006, DR.EGGS won the Warehouse Band Competition, participated in Rock It Hong Kong Music Festival, YAMAHA Asian Beat 2006[3], and was also invited to play at the large-scale Countdown show on New Year Eve.
  • 2006, Joul started up his own label Juicy Orange Productions and produced the Eclectic music compilation <<HK City Sound>>[4] to show the diversity of Hong Kong’s music scene.
  • 2007, the <<CHINESE DEMOCRACY>>[5] EP was released for free on the internet, the EP showed a new sound of DR. EGGS, more Rock and Electronic.

Asia Tour (2008 - 2011)[edit]

Since 2008 DR.EGGS has been touring extensively in Asia.

  • 2008, after first Asia Tour “Human Behavior Tour[6][7]” with gigs around the Philippines and China, <<TINNS>>[8] the second album was released, produced by Amusix Productions, a new music company started up by Joul.
  • 2009 - 2011, tour in Japan, Taiwan, Thailand and China[9], also did a France tour with their friends, La Ruda

US Tour and France Tour (2012 – 2013)[edit]

  • 2012, DR.EGGS went on an West Coast tour in the US, playing from Las Vegas to Phoenix to LA, including the legendary Whisky a GoGo. During that tour, the band signed a publishing agreement with Warner Music.
  • End of 2012, the original French lineup reunited after eight years for seven shows across France.

Asia Tour and 2nd US Tour (2013 - 2014)[edit]

  • 2013, the band tour intensively in Asia, including shows in China, Cambodia[10][11][12], Singapore and Hong Kong.
  • During 2013 to 2014, the band had a regular set and a rockabilly set, and from time to time Dr. Eggs was playing two different shows per night.
  • 2014, DR.EGGS was invited to the US again by the burger joint Caliburger to shoot their new music video “Sunset Boulevard” in California. The band took the opportunity to go on their second US tour, returning to Whisky a Go Go[13] for the second time and a memorable show in South Central. During that time, the band was formed with Joul and three female musicians based in Hong Kong.
  • 2014, the band also played in Korea and Reunion Island for the Kaloo Bang Festival [14]with artist such as Yannick Noah.

Music and Acting (2015 - 2016)[edit]

  • 2015, Joul re-appeared on stage with three musicians from Togo, Africa, re-arranging the DR.EGGS set list into a Reggae set. In the same year they participated in the Hong Kong International Reggae Ska Festival[15].
  • During 2015, the band has been making less appearance except a few show in Hong Kong[16], Taiwan, Japan and China.
  • 2016, Joul took a break from the music scene and devoted his time to running his music school, the Amusix School, which produce three music shows every year for children and adult students.
  • During his break, Joul also participated as an actor in Blockbuster Movie such as <<Ghost in the Shell>> and <<Shockwave>>, and numerous TV dramas on TVB,including Fashion War, The Last Healer In Forbidden City, .

Recent (2017 - 2018)[edit]

  • 2017, some new songs are tested in different countries[17] starting with Japan, India[18] ,Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand and China.[19].
  • 2018, the last year of DR.EGGS, with gigs around the globe, a new LP (on a USB) and a new album to be released before saying au revoir.
