Educine

HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE

Impression: Educine is the science of teaching-learning process.

During the dark ages there was no formal (properly organized) teaching-learning efforts. Speculations and superstitions were the order of the day characterized with fears, panic and uncertainly. Diseases and other threats griped the humans. Mythology, legends, poetry and memory verses were the earliest instrument used to address the challenges. These practice varied from land to land in the name of culture or civilization.

Sumerian, Phoenician, Assyrian, Babylonian, Greek, Roman, Persian, Chinese, among others are the earliest of such civilizations. There was common sharing of wisdom of all these cultures which eventually evolved into A, B, C,….. X, Y, Z. and 1, 2, 3,……….. 8, 9, 0. now known as alphanumeric. Socrates, and his student, including Plato, then Aristotle and Alexander the Great started and spread the “SCHOOL” system. Philosophy, Astronomy, Algorithm, Algebra, Physics, Chemistry, Music and Art evolved from this system. The Greeks were the prime custodians of this school culture, from whom the Romans copied it and spread it with the Arab travelers to Africa and Europe. For this reason, modern days’ senses, ideas, concepts and vocabulary are characterized with Greek, Roman, and Arab words and terminology: Biology, Chemistry, Economy, Algebra, Chlorophyll, Dictionary, Manufacture etcetera.

Educine which is a derivative of Educing which is continuous present tense of Educe[1] which is a shortened form of Ex Ducere, meaning to lead out. Ex Ducere is a phrase truncated from “To lead out of Ignorance”. This idea “To lead out of ignorance” was the Romans idea to solve the prevalent challenges of the day. This is, since they had learnt from the SCRIPTURE that “People perish for lack of wisdom”. This practice started with teaching and learning of Mythology, Philosophy, Art, Music, Medicine Astronomy and farming. Interplay of cultures and civilizations improved the system to advanced stages, before renaissance and industrial revolution.

Industrial revolution brought a major change in school learning and teaching system: Ex Ducere[2][3], Educe[4][5], Educing entered into English Civilization and eventually into English Vocabulary. Educing[6][7]………... Educine………. Education[8][9][10].

EDUCATION became most used, and others became extinct with their concepts and methodology forgotten. Medicine and Educine both evolved from the same culture and civilization, which were attempts to free humans from the scourge of ignorance diseases and suffering. The approach of medicine was to TREAT and that of Educine was to TEACH.

Human nature prefers GIVE ME more than TEACH ME HOW. Humans adopted medicine more. Medicine developed at a very terrific rate enhanced with modern technology and science. Educine became dead leaving its mold as Education for humans to contend with. Otherwise Educine is the scientific study of school teaching-learning process, and education is the skill of manipulating the act and art of teaching-learning process.

RENAISSANCE OF EDUCINE.

Schooling is from the beginning of time is BINOMIAL which has been reduced through ages to MONOMIAL.

It is this reduction from its binomial to monomial nature that has impaired the potency. This fact is elusive and obscure to human perception, hence the endless search for solution to issues and challenges confronting teaching learning in school.

The binomial parts of school’s teaching-learning are EDUCATION and EDUCINE: EDUCINE studies the rudiment of physiological (response) and arousal mechanism (stimulus); the two major factor to teaching-learning while education is the management of these two factors. Gradually the educine became extinct and education thrives. So this present trend is bringing back EDUCINE to the fore. This is the mission of EDUCINE; the Educal studies, to sensitize humans and promote renaissance of EDUCINE.

DEFINITION AND SIGNIFICANCE

Definitions

1)    The science that studies the rudiments of teaching-learning process.

2)    The science that studies the interface and interaction between teaching and learning processes.

3)    The science that studies the interface and interaction between stimulus and response.

4)    The science that studies the rudiment of all the factor that effect behavioral change.

5)    The study of interface and interaction between physical and psychological worlds.

6)    It is the study of interface and interaction between organism and its environment.

ILLUSTRATIONS: Speech or Talk

Speech is the act or manner of producing sound from the mouth, the sound that produces intelligence information.

Talk is the sound produced from the mouth that is perceptible or perceivable to the listener or receiver.

Sound is a form of electromagnetic energy, when it emanates from the mouth or vocal box it is called VOICE, the musical instrument is termed music notes.

Tune is the sound produced from the musical instrument, comprising notes in succession that is perceptible or perceivable to the receiver or listener.

Talk is to (Vocal Box) mouth What tune is to musical instrument.

When a talk or tune is produced (in the classroom) the sound energy travels through the (medium) air and it is received by the EARDRUM. The ear drum is (excited) stimulated and thereby the sound energy is transduced into electrical energy in the ear, then passes on to the nervous system then to the brain for interpretation.

In this case, the talk or speech is, the manipulation of the organism’s environment or teaching.

The (air) medium is the interface between (teaching) stimulus and (learning) response and the transduction of the sound energy to electrical impulses is the interaction between teaching and learning or interaction between stimulus and response.

Refinery of teaching or sound energy enhances effective and efficient learning. A lesson learnt in lyrics is less effective than a lesson or speech done in rhymes and less than the one done in music.

For example, the lyrics

“HOT CROSS BUNS

HOT CROSS BUNS

ONE A PENNY

TWO A PENNY

HOT CROSS BUNS……………….” will be learnt memorized better and taster in music form than in rhyme form and more than in lyrics form.

Similarly,

“PAT A CAKE

PAT A CAKE

BAKER’S MAN

BAKE ME A CAKE AS YOU CAN

PRICK IT AND PAT IT

AND MARK IT WITH B………………..” Is learnt better in music than in rhyme and more than in lyrics so is any other lesson or speech.

DEPICTION OR PRESENTATION

Depiction is the act of showing or presenting sight from the environment of the organism; that is intelligible enough to the perception of the organism.

Sight is the faculty of seeing or the act of seeing.

Vision is the act or power of seeing or the consequences of sight.

Sight is the consequences of light that carries intelligent information.

Light is another form of electromagnetic energy that is modulated and encoded with informed message from the environment. This informed messages are intelligent to the perception of the receiver or preceptor.

Just as sound energy can be refined and produced into melody, so is light energy is refine-able into (Beautiful) aesthetics sight.

The refinement of sight and sound and all other forms of energy is the basic duty and concern of EDUCINE; the study of interface and interaction between (Stimulus) teaching and (Response) learning.A lesson presented in color’s that are riotous enhances learning better than a lesson in black and white only.

Educine studies “how and what” of all these impulses (sound, light, taste, smell, and feel,) emanate from the environment and “how and what” the interface (air or space) play its part and the interaction of these impulses in the physiological state of the organism and Teacher.

In summary, Educine is the study of interface and interaction between teaching(Stimulus) and Learning(Response).
