Henry G. (Hank) Almquist Jr. is a bank operations executive with a finance background who recently led a commercial bank that was in danger of failure.  From 2011-2018 he served Atlanta’s Cornerstone Bank and President and CEO for the last four years.

When Almquist was promoted to President and CEO in 2014, Cornerstone was a bank operating under a consent order with the OCC . Through the restructuring of the company and its assets, the bank downsized and repositioned. The bank raised more than $5MM in May, 2017. Almquist's management technique was considered non-traditional.[1]

Cornerstone Bank appointed Almquist as Senior Vice President, charged with managing the credit function after the downturn in the real estate and commercial loan market.[2] In his role as Executive Vice President he was assigned the operating units: Human Resources, Compliance and Loan Operations.

Prior to his tenure at Cornerstone Bank, Almquist spent 14 years with AMC, Inc., a firm more commonly known as “AmericasMart.” Serving as CFO from 1997-2006 with the added title of Executive Vice President in 2006, Almquist was responsible for the development and construction of an 1.5MM foot expansion project for this wholesale mart.[3][4]

Almquist served as Vice President for American Resurgens Management, an Atlanta real estate company and was responsible for commercial and residential development. Real estate was his focus at Citicorp Real Estate Inc., where he also served as Vice President.

Almquist’s career began in 1980 as a management trainee at New York’s Chase Manhattan Bank after his graduation from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, where he completed a BA in economics and an MBA. During his six years at Chase he held the following positions:  Assistant Treasurer and Second Vice President.

Almquist was a member of the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce as Chairman of the Committee for a Better Atlanta , Atlanta Convention and Visitors Board, the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District Board and the Central Atlanta Progress Board.
