Earth Based Education Model

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Earth based education model (EBEM) describes a pedagogy that, through the process of Institutional Education, will support the development of the child's innate, non-focused intelligence in balance with that which is learned.

Current models nearly always focus entirely on acquisition of language and numerical skills, ignoring the intelligences the child brings when entering the system and are more symbiotic in nature.  The resultant imbalance has led us to either believe in the system or reject it.  For those who do well competing in acquisition of those skills, success looms, based upon measurable test results and grades.

EBEM, utilizes the Earth as the template for balance in our effort to raise the whole child, guiding them toward becoming empowered, self-actualized decision making citizens.  Through a systemic adoption of its principles, every child at every grade level will be given a real world, hands on, multi sensory, inter-disciplinary experience in each community's natural settings, led by educational specialists.  Curricula specific to those sites will connect state learning objectives with the innate relationship our chemical, genetic compositions have to the air, water and soil products of which we all are made.  We are born connected to the very intelligence ours has evolved from.  EBEM shows by example our respect for such, both inwardly and to our home planet.

The concept was first authored in 2012 in a Wordpress blog by Paul P. Nasuti, primarily based in his experiences as a real world, hands on, environmental educator with the Dade County Public School System (DCPSS) at their Center for Environmental Education on Key Biscayne, FL, as an environmental sector U.S. Peace Corps volunteer, Jamaica, '93-'95 and The Delaware Nature Society, a non-profit in New Castle, DE.

There are many examples of the education process utilizing EBEM thinking.  However, they are scattered, subsisting on the edge thinking dynamic that has little relationship to Homo sapiens' balanced, centered core values.  They happen in spite of a paradigm of belief that free market capitalist profiteering in a growth economy must be the way of the future because it has represented the successes of our past.  Yet our habit ignores the knowledge we have gained regarding the epic failure that arises when unlimited success occasionally occurs when one species overtakes the carrying capacity of its ecosystem.
