Ecoglass

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Ecoglass is material used for manufacturing bottles. The name is trademarked by Talaya Water. Ecoglass is created by using a very thin layer of glass to coat the inside of a PET bottle, an innovation developed in Germany. Ecoglass bottles are chiefly used for bottled drinking water and other beverages.

Ecoglass bottles combine the advantages of PET and glass, by being lightweight and robust while completely sealing in the contents. Ecoglass is also 100% recyclable.

Origin of the name[edit]

The word Ecoglass is a combination of glass – used in the lining – and ecological, since the material is recyclable.

Types of bottle[edit]

Ecoglass bottles are made in several sizes: 330 ml, 500 ml, and 1 l.

Manufacturing process[edit]

PET bottles are placed in a coating chamber and the air is removed from the bottles. The glass is inserted as a gas and bonded to the inside of the PET

Advantages[edit]

Since it mainly consists of PET, Ecoglass is lightweight for transporting water and not easily broken. If damaged it doesn’t shatter into sharp pieces like glass, as the glass layer is inseparably bonded to the PET.

The thin glass layer on the inside keeps the bottle entirely sealed avoiding any possible contamination of the water or other contents. For bottled water, this means the water stays fresh even after a long period of time.
