Egg and Spoon

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Egg & Spoon is a fairy tale fantasy novel written by American novelist Gregory Maguire and published by Candlewick Press on September 9, 2014. It follows the lives of two young girls growing up in Russia. Elena Rudina lives in the impoverished countryside, while Ekaterina is a spoiled child who is passing through town on the way to St. Petersburg to meet the tsar's godson. When their lives collide, one mistake leads to them switching places- Cat is now stuck in a poor village with strange people, while Elena must survive now that she has been thrust into the role of playing Ekaterina as she is on her way to meet the tsar's godson herself at a royal ball. As the two girls try to find each other and their lives, they each embark on a personal journey, meeting characters such as the Russian mythical being, Baba Yaga, a prince named Anton, and other elements from folklore. The novel contains many derivatives from Russian fairy tales and includes Russian mythology and legendary characters.
