El Gaucho (Hebrew: אל גאוצ'ו) is an Israeli steakhouse chain with 5 branches around Israel. It opened its first steak house in 1982.[1]
In addition to the restaurants, El Gaucho also has a catering business and beginning in 2010 sells a line of frozen meat products.[5]
Menu[edit]
El Gaucho is named after the gauchos, the cowboys of Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay.[6] In traditional gaucho fashion, grilled food is cooked over a charcoal fire.[6] Meat is aged before cooking,[7] and brought to the table on a charcoal brazier to keep it hot.[8]
Locations[edit]
As of December 2018, El Gaucho had 4 locations around Israel, in:
El Gaucho has had locations in Herzliya,[14] Jerusalem,[15] and Ramat Gan.[16] Ramat Gan closed in 2018. In 2002 there were a total if 13 branches around the country.[17] In 2020 the Haifa location was ordered to be closed due to health violations.[18]
In 2017, a woman chocked on their food and died in the Rishon LeZion location.[19]
Kashrut[edit]
Three of El Gaucho's four branches, as of December 2018, are kosher. Haifa and Netanya are kosher. Rishon LeZion is kosher lemehadrin.[1] Eilat is not kosher.
