Elazzaoui Elhousine (born March 16, 1992).[1] is a Moroccan Mountain running runner, currently living in Bedano - Ticino. A sky races and Vertical KM specialist, he won the Lodrino Lavertezzo Skyrace in 2018 and 2019 beating the longstanding record [2]. In 2019 Elhousine also won the Valle Maggia VK beating the record standing since 1988 [3], in the same year he finished second at the Trofeo Nasego Vertical behind a strong Davide Magnini [4] and finished the Dolomyths Run Skyrace third, crossing the finish lane with Nadir Maguet [5]
Early Life[edit]
Elhousine is a son of the desert, born in the Berber tribe of southern Morocco. His grandfather with his great caravan composed of the family and about fifteen camels participated in the Trans-Saharan trade (50-day crossing from Morocco, to Mali (Tomboctou) and Algeria). Hassan's father as a child followed in his father's footsteps; later, as an adult, he gradually settled down with his family passing from the typical Berber tent as a dwelling to the hard house. As a boy, having to contribute to the surveillance of the dromedaries, Hassan would ask his father to let them go far away so that he could run and get them back (barefoot). His daily diet was generally composed of dates, goat milk, bread baked in desert sand, chickpea soup and flour. 2006 - That year with his dad he goes shopping at the souk of little Zagora, when by chance he sees that the same day there will be a 5km race. He enrolls and races, finishing 1st. In general at that time in order to go to school which was about ten kilometers away, not having a bicycle, he would ask whoever had one, to bring his folder; and he would run to the school. In 2010 having won a race at school, he was able to compete in the Moroccan championship by finishing in the sixth place and also qualifying for the African championship. Unfortunately he could not participate as he did not have a passport. In 2011 he worked for his brother who has a company that organizes travels in the desert and mountains both in the south and all over Morocco. With a bit of training in 2013, he raced an international 10km competition coming in third place in 29.50, having won a bicycle race in the same week despite never having done much cycling. He graduated from high school and began studying at the university in Marrakech which he soon abandoned due to the lack of financial means. 2016 - In the middle of the year he meets a woman who was planning to spend a few days in his brother's tourist facility and travel briefly in the desert. Since then, passing through various bureaucratic adventures at the end of March 2017, he moved to Switzerland where he can finally realize his dream: - train properly with suitable equipment, compete at a high level and compete with the major international exponents of the discipline.
