Eli Cash (born 1982), is an American hip hop artist from Racine, WI.

Early life[edit]

Born Chris Krekling to middle class parents, he grew up in Racine, WI. He is White. In high school, he bought his first drum set and started mixing beats with longtime friend and fellow multi-instrumentalist producer, Justin Kral. Inspired by his classmate's rhymes and a music aficionado, he started writing his own songs. After graduation, he entered University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, where he spent one and a half years. He dropped out of the college to focus on music full time.

Career[edit]

Eli Cash released his first studio album, Kill the Radio [1], on Lowkey Productions in 2003. In 2005, Eli again worked with Steezy Wonder of Lowkey Productions to create his second full-length album, Escapism [2]. The duo shot their first music video with director Leon Chen for the single Broadcast Distortion [3]. The video "features Cash's decidedly non-obsolete vernacular set atop a sprightly beat and amongst a variety of Madison locales" [3] was filmed around the University of Wisconsin - Madison campus where Steezy Wonder was attending school as an undergraduate. Eli toured the midwest [4] in support of Escapsim while continuing to write and record new music. Several years passed by with Eli Cash continuing to work with production and writing with Steezy Wonder between artistic side projects. It wasn't until 2019 that Eli started releasing new music again with a full-length album The Drone Age produced with Reynoldo Jenkin [5] and the single Dad Rap. The COVID epidemic brought space for Eli and Steezy Wonder to reunite and finalize their album Stereotype Assassin which was written and recorded over a period of 15 years. This "long-lost" album, Stereotype Assassin was released on October 16, 2020.
