Early Life[edit]

Eric grew up in St. Louis, MO, the son of Brian Morse, a high school football coach and history teacher, and Jo Anne Morse, a high school algebra teacher. He attended The Principia, Principia College, and graduated from DePauw University with a B.A. in Creative Writing, with minors in Philosophy and Spanish.

Career[edit]

In the late 1990s, as a freelance writer in Olympia, WA and Seattle, WA, Morse wrote music reviews and interviews for Seattle Weekly and The Stranger. In August, 2000, Morse covered Ladyfest in Olympia, WA for MTV News.

In 2002, Morse founded TrampolineHouse.com, an online magazine focused on art, music, and literature. Morse wrote, edited, designed, and built the site, and in March of 2004, Trampoline House was awarded Best New Online Magazine at SXSW Interactive.[1] in Austin, TX.

Soon after, he moved to Brooklyn, NY and opened a gallery and performance space (also named Trampoline House), showing works by Eric White, Miya Ando Stanoff, Rick Froberg, Gregory Euclide, Jennifer Davis, Ellis G., and more. Over the next few years, Morse worked at a number of marketing agencies while also working as a freelance writer, contributing political analysis to Huffington Post[2]. In 2009, Morse joined Warner Music Group to create the Direct to Consumer Marketing team. There, he provided record labels, artists, and management a suite of digital marketing tools and expertise. In 2011, Morse delivered the keynote address to the Marketing Today conference in Auckland, New Zealand[3]

In October, 2015, Akashic Books published Eric Morse's first children's book, What Is Punk?, illustrated in 3-D clay creations by Los Angeles-based artist Anny Yi. What Is Punk? was a #1 New Release on Amazon's Children's Cultural & Music History charts, and was picked as one of the Best Books of 2015 by the Toronto Globe & Mail[4]. What Is Punk? has been translated into Turkish and Spanish[5], and was published in the UK by Michael O'Mara in July 2016[6]. That same year, Morse and Yi also released the What Is Punk? Activity Book on Amazon.

In September, 2017 Akashic Books published Morse and Yi's second book, What Is Hip-Hop?, which was produced by the novelist and cultural critic, Nelson George. What Is Hip-Hop? introduces children and young readers to the birth of the hip-hop culture. What Is Hip-Hop? also reached #1 on the Amazon New Releases list in Children's Music and Children's Hip-Hop categories. Later that year, What Is Hip-Hop? was named to Chicago Public Library's Best Of The Best list of 2017[7]. That year, Morse made appearances at the Miami Book Fair and Brooklyn Book Festival.

In early March, 2017, Morse co-founded and launched the Animal Crackers Podcast (ACP), a political and pop-cultural roundtable-style discussion podcast, featuring producer and co-founder Ivan Graham, Michael Skrzypek, and Paul Brittain, with Morse as host. After six episodes, Michael Skrzypek left the podcast and Kerry Murphy joined as a regular member of the discussion and co-host.
