Erin Prather Stafford is an American writer and film producer based in Texas. She is the founder of Girls That Create, an online platform that provides parenting resources for raising creative girls while also encouraging greater female representation across the arts. Prather Stafford is also Executive Producer of the documentary WONDER WOMEN! The Untold Story of American Superheroines. The film had its national broadcast on Independent Lens | PBS in 2013.[1]

Early Life[edit]

Born in Lubbock, Texas,[2] Prather Stafford graduated from St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas, with a degree in communication, then earned her master's in gender and international development from the University of Warwick.[3]

Career[edit]

Prather Stafford began her career at Austin Family Magazine. She went on to work for the Texas Medical Association, where her article "Diagnosing Mental Illness" for Texas Medicine Magazine was awarded a 2006 Barbara Jordan Media Award by the Texas Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities[4]. In 2007, Prather Stafford relocated to Dallas, Texas,[5] where she researched and wrote the historical book Vision 60: Sixty Years of the Science and Art of Radiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center.[6][7]

Prather Stafford also became involved with WONDER WOMEN![8], which had its world premiere at the 2012 SXSW Film Festival.[9] The film traces the fascinating evolution and legacy of Wonder Woman while also examining the portrayal of powerful women in mass media and why representation matters.[10][11][12]

Girls That Create[edit]

In 2019, Prather Stafford launched Girls That Create after reading fewer women directed top-grossing films in 2018 than 1998.[13][14][15] Today the site offers information on parenting, women creators, creative resources, and empowering environments.[16][17][18]
