Ethno-fashion show "Aristocratic Ukraine" (ukr. «Аристократична Україна») is an annual All-Ukrainian festival of ethnic and stylized clothes and accessories.[1].

It is held in the historical and cultural complex "Radomysl Castle" (Radomyshl, Zhytomyr region, Ukraine), on the last weekend of July[2].

The festival was founded by Olga Bogomolets, MD, in 2016[2].

The Festival's main goals[edit]

  • Revival of Ukrainian national traditions in fashion;
  • Popularization of ethnic clothing among young people;
  • Encouragement for the development of cultural diplomacy between ethnic groups and national minorities residing in Ukraine;
  • Assistance and support for the families of the deceased veterans of the war in the East of Ukraine[1].

The Festival's specifics[edit]

"Aristocratic Ukraine" is the first systematic all-Ukrainian "fashion show" in the style of ethno. Its specific feature is demonstrating the clothes and accessories, so modern, created under the influence of folk motifs, as authentic, worn one hundred and more years ago in different lands of Ukraine and being nowadays the part of museums' and private families' collections[2].

Professional models are not involved in the show. Instead, the models are just ordinary women and the wives of the deceased defenders of Ukraine[3].

Instead of a podium, a track woven of flax, on which the models move barefoot, is used[2]..

The Festival'gs participants are design centers, workshops and trademarks, individual producers and local lore museums from all over Ukraine[2].

History[edit]

The participants of the festival "Aristocratic Ukraine" show old clothes from different regions of Ukraine. Radomzsl Castle, 2016.

The first ethno-fashion show "Aristocratic Ukraine" took place on July, 30, 2016. Alongside with Ukrainian designers, the representatives of the Polish minority in Ukraine showed their national costumes. The collections of national clothes of Malaysia and South Korea were provided by these countries' embassies in Ukraine[4].

The second festival took place on July 22, 2017. This time there was a noticeable bias towards a high fashion with elements of ethno. In addition, within the framework of the Council of Europe's cultural project Via Regia, whose member is the Radomysl Castle, the collection of Lithuanian national clothes was presented[5]

In 2018, the third All-Ukrainian festival of ethnic and stylized clothing is scheduled for July 28.
