Exabytes Network Sdn Bhd is a Malaysia based domain registrar and web hosting company. The company's range of products and services include shared hosting, cloud hosting, virtual private servers (VPS), dedicated server, server colocation, email hosting, reseller web hosting, website design services and more. Exabytes Network Sdn Bhd is a subsidiary of the Exabytes Group. Its sister companies include Usonyx, Signetique, Exabytes Singapore Pte Ltd, Exabytes Indonesia, Exabytes Digital, easyparcel, easystore, etc.[1]

History[edit]

Exabytes Network Sdn Bhd was founded in 2002 by Chan Kee Siak. Prior to the founding of Exabytes Network Sdn Bhd, Chan provided web design and web development services under the name of hostkaki, a sole proprietorship run solely by Chan.

Chan subsequently incorporated Exabytes Network Sdn Bhd when business orders increased. In the next 4 years (from 2002 to 2005), Chan with less than 8 staff members working in an office in Gurney Tower, Penang managed to differentiate themselves by providing 24/7 round the clock technical support, as well as their highly creative email newsletters that were sent to the clients.

In 2005, Exabytes Network Sdn Bhd became the biggest web hosting provider in Malaysia by market share, a position it still holds in 2017.[2]

Corporate Headquarters Move[edit]

In 2005, Exabytes Network Sdn Bhd moved from Gurney Tower to Mayang Mall in Bayan Baru, Penang, the Northern Multimedia Super Corridor of Malaysia. In 2008, the company with its 40 members of staff subsequently moved to SUNTECH, a high-tech office building built opposite Mayang Mall.

Company Growth[edit]

Starting from 2005, Exabytes Network Sdn Bhd has slowly increased its services and offerings to include other related services such as SSL certificates, Email marketing solutions, digital marketing solutions, website design, data backup, WHOIS ID Protection, etc.[3]

In 2015, the company expanded its operation to Singapore with an office located at Paya Lebar. In 2016, Exabytes expanded to Indonesia with an office in Cyber2 Jakarta.[4]

As of 2017, the company has over 75,000 worldwide customers in 121 countries, served by more than a hundred members of staff and professionals across the country.

MSC Status[edit]

Exabytes Network Sdn Bhd has obtained the MSC Status in year 2005 and awarded with ISO 9001:2008 Certification in 2011.

Google AdWords Premier Partner[edit]

In 2015, Exabytes was officially appointed as a Google AdWords premier partner.[5]

Technical Support[edit]

Exabytes provides 24/7/365 technical support to its clients. The company also provides local based technical support to its clients based in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.

Acquisition[edit]

1) Exabytes acquired EziVoucher and CYPE in 2013.[6]

2) Exabytes acquired Hi Mall Shopping in 2013.[7]

3) Exabytes acquired EziVoucher in 2013.[8]

4) Exabytes acquired Usonyx in August 2014.[9]

5) Exabytes acquired Signetique in 2015.[10]

6) Exabytes acquired EziVoucher, and CYPE to form Exabytes Cloud Sdn Bhd, Exabytes Ecommerce Sdn Bhd and Exabytes Venture Sdn Bhd in 2015.[11]

7) Exabytes acquired HT Internet in February 2017.[12]

8) Exabytes acquired HT Internet's first comprehensive hosting.[13]

9) On Feb 9, 2018, Exabytes fully acquired Iconz-Webvisions Sdn Bhd (IWV Malaysia), a KL-based enterprise cloud provider.[14]

The acquisition marked the first part of the Exabytes Group’s merger and acquisition roadmap for the year 2018. Post-acquisition, IWV Malaysia was rebranded as Exabytes Enterprise. The subsidiary company will mainly be offering managed enterprise cloud services, targeted at medium to large enterprises in Malaysia.[15]

Infrastructure[edit]

Exabytes Network owns two data centers in Malaysia, namely AIMS Kuala Lumpur and AIMS Suntech @ Penang. The company also has servers hosted in the United States and Singapore. The company also owns a data centre at AIMS Data Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.[16]

The Exabytes Book[edit]

In October 2012, Exabytes Network Sdn Bhd launched the first book written on the company’s success story and the entrepreneurial journey of its founder cum CEO, Chan Kee Siak, “From Zerobyte To Exabytes”. The book chronicled the entrepreneurial story of Exabytes Network Sdn Bhd and Chan, a 19-year-old college dropout who aspired to make a difference in the Internet age.

Exabytes Design Club (EDC)[edit]

Exabytes Designer Club (EDC) is an initiative started back in 2014 by Exabytes Network Sdn Bhd to gather the design community, bring networking opportunities, enhance knowledge sharing etc. The EDC gatherings cover the adoption of design related technologies and extensive industry experience sharing so that attendees from different backgrounds would benefit in many ways.

Malaysia Website Awards[edit]

As the largest e-commerce hosting service provider in Malaysia, Exabytes held the award ceremony for the 2015 Malaysian Website Awards on Saturday (January 23) at the House of Yeap Chor Ee, the historic home of Ye Zuyi, Penang. Twenty six winners were awarded the Best Website Award. The first time the 2015 Malaysian Website Awards was hosted to promote and reward the best web developers, web designers and web companies with outstanding performance on local websites, while further encouraging the overall creative quality of domestic web design.[17]

Easywork Mobile App[edit]

The Exabytes Group, a leading website and eCommerce hosting provider in Southeast Asia launches its mobile application ‘EasyWork’ on 1st April 2018. Launched with the slogan “Companies now have a revolutionary way to manage More Than Just Administrative Work!”, EasyWork is a powerful application tool for SMEs and large organisations to manage their workforce, collaboration, employee reward system, and other administrative roles easily on mobile devices — anytime, anywhere.[18]

Exabytes GROW Program[edit]

In March 2017, Exabytes Network Sdn Bhd started its GROW social venture that would grant RM20 million worth of online services and development support to young entrepreneurs across Malaysia, with the main aim of building the online brand visibility of these small businesses.[19] The Exabytes' GROW campaign is open to all local micros and SMEs. Through this campaign, local enterprises that already have an existing Facebook page will be entitled to a free-for-one-year service to brand itself by developing a functional domain name, and more effective email business address to achieve maximum brand awareness.

The program was slated to run for one year or is valid for 120,000 applicants — whichever comes first.[20]

Exabytes Internet Marketing Summit[edit]

Exabytes organized the Exabytes Internet Marketing Summit 2017, which was held in Grand City on August 8, 2017.

As the first Chinese technology news website in Malaysia, TechDaily was also the official cooperation media for the 2017 Exabytes Internet Marketing Summit.[21]

Exabytes Cockroach Startup Program[edit]

Exabytes Cockroach Startup Program is a brainchild of Exabytes, created with the objective of assisting and empowering great ideas and entrepreneurs in the country, maximizing their potential so that they can be all they could be.[22]

Successful applicants will receive RM 30,000 in Exabytes credits and RM 20,000 in cash.[23]

According to Exabytes, the company was motivated to provide a platform that continues to see success in promoting high potential Malaysian startups in 2017.[24]

Twenty shortlisted startups which had successfully developed their products proceeded to Stage 2, whereby they will continued to receive Exabytes’ support worth RM30,000 in Credit for their production use. These startups would also get RM20,000 in cash in exchange for Exabytes to gain 5% equity shareholding in their business.

According to Chan, the CEO and founder of Exabytes, over the years, Malaysia’s startup ecosystem has seen more and more entrepreneurs with innovative products coming into the market.[25]

Since the inception of Exabytes in 2001, Exabytes have helped many SMEs to grow their businesses by leveraging on their online platform services. Today, they are serving 75,000+ Customers (ranging from individuals, students, small and medium size businesses, to government and public listed companies) in 121 countries, apart from managing over 1000 servers with more than 100,000 websites, and over 1,000,000 email accounts.[26]
